The Kansas City Chiefs send DE/DT Alex Magee to the Buccaneers

The Chiefs have traded 23-year old DE/DT Alex Magee and a 6th round pick in 2011 to the Buccaneers for a 5th round pick in 2011.  Magee played in 2 games for the Chiefs this year and he had 2 tackles.  Magee played in 17 games in two years with the Chiefs and he had 10 tackles and 2 sacks.  Magee was a 3rd round pick out of Purdue in 2009 but he just doesn’t seem to be a good fit in Romeo Crennel’s defense.  With that in mind I really like this deal for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs trade DT Tank Tyler to the Panthers

The Chiefs have traded 24-year old DT Tank Tyler to the Panthers for a fifth round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Tyler played in 6 games for the Chiefs this season and he had 22 tackles.  Tyler played three years for the Chiefs appearing in 37 games in which he made 74 tackles.  The Chiefs did not see much improvement in Tyler’s game so they decided to move him to a team desperate for defensive line help.  This was a good move by the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs will get a fifth round pick from the Dolphins

The Chiefs have received a fifth round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft to complete the Tyler Thigpen trade.  This is pretty good value for the player who really had no future with the Chiefs as their #3 QB.  It almost never hurts to trade spare players for draft picks so this winds up being a solid move for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs trade Tyler Thigpen to the Dolphins

The Chiefs have traded 25-year old QB Tyler Thigpen to the Dolphins for a undisclosed draft pick.  Thigpen only played in 1 game this season for the Chiefs and he carried the ball 1 time for 2 yards.  In three years with the Chiefs, Thigpen played in 16 games and he completed 232 of 426 passes (54.5%) for 2,649 yards with 18 TD passes and 13 INTs (74.7 QB Rating).  He also has carried the football 63 times for 388 yards (6.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  Thigpen even snuck out of the backfield to catch a 37-yard TD pass.  This was a good move for the Chiefs as they have Matt Cassel and Brodie Croyle ahead of Thigpen on the depth chart.

The Kansas City Chiefs acquire a couple of guards from the Dolphins

With the offensive line not looking up to par so far the Chiefs have acquired 27-year old guard Ikechuka Ndukwe and 25-year old guard Andy Alleman from the Dolphins for a undisclosed draft pick.  Ndukwe is a huge man at 6’4″, 325 pounds and he has a mean streak which should help the run blocking.  He played in 16 games (15 starts) for the Dolphins last season.  He has played 4 years in the NFL covering 21 games (15 starts).  Alleman is also a big guy at 6’4″, 310 pounds but he might not be starting material.  He played in 15 games (4 starts) for the Dolphins last season which was his first game action in the NFL.  This was a good trade for the Chiefs who need to keep Matt Cassel in one piece all season long.

The Kansas City Chiefs trade Tony Gonzalez to the Falcons

The Chiefs have traded 33-year old TE Tony Gonzalez to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2nd round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Gonzalez played in all 16 games for the Chiefs last season and he caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards (11.0 avg) with 10 TD grabs.  He finished his career with the Chiefs playing in 190 games in which he caught 916 passes for 10,940 yards (11.9 avg) with 76 TD grabs.  Gonzalez had 1,000+ yards receiving 4 times in his career with the Chiefs and he had 10+ TD grabs three times.  It’s sad to see one of the best players in franchise history leaving the Chiefs but it will help them rebuild big time.

The Kansas City Chiefs acquire Matt Cassel to complete Vrabel trade

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Trades by admin on Saturday 28 February 2009 at 6:38 pm

The Chiefs have acquired 26-year old QB Matt Cassel in addition to linebacker Mike Vrabel for the 34th pick (2nd round) in the 2009 NFL Draft.  Cassel immediately becomes the Chiefs’ starting QB heading into the 2009 season.  He played in all 16 games for the Patriots last season and he completed 327 of 516 passes (63.4%) for 3,693 yards with 21 TD passes and 11 interceptions (89.4 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 73 times for 270 yards (3.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs last year.  Cassel has now played in 30 games in his NFL career so far and he has completed 349 of 555 passes (62.9%) for 3,946 yards with 23 TD passes and 13 interceptions (88.2 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 85 times for 298 yards (3.5 ypc) with 3 TD runs in his career.  This was a master stroke by GM Scott Pioli in his first real acquisition for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs acquire linebacker Mike Vrabel from the Patriots

The first addition of the new regime of the Chiefs was acquiring 33-year old linebacker Mike Vrabel from the Patriots for an undisclosed draft pick.  Vrabel played in 16 games for the Patriots last season and he made 62 tackles, defensed 4 passes, forced 1 fumble and he had 1 interception.  Vrabel has now played in 176 games in his NFL career in which he has made 641 tackles, has defended 36 passes, has 55 sacks, forced 17 fumbles and he has 11 interceptions (one of which he returned for a TD).  Vrabel might be starting to slow down but he knows how to win and he’s a playmaker so this was a good move if he has anything left.
