The Chiefs played pretty well on defense last night but it didn’t matter because the offense sputtered most of the night.  The D played so well that the game was tied 3-3 at the half.  Matt Cassel didn’t look good at all last night as he completed 6 of 8 passes for 25 yards and he lost a fumble.  Brodie Croyle didn’t do much better completing 8 of 15 passes for 66 yards with 1 INT.  Tyler Palko finished up the night by completing 8 of 13 passes for 66 yards with 1 INT.  But, he did run 2 times for 12 yards and he scored a TD.  Javarris Williams knows that he is fighting for a roster spot and he looked good last night carrying the ball 7 times for 38 yards (5.4 ypc).  He also caught 2 passes for 16 yards (8.0 avg) last night.  Jamaal Charles looked sharp when he was in the game rushing 4 times for 37 yards (9.3 ypc).  Dexter McCluster looked good in his first taste of NFL action as he carried the ball 5 times for 25 yards (5.0 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 23 yards (7.7 avg).  The Chiefs finished up with 130 yards rushing (4.6 ypc) and 143 yards passing in this game but they only had possesion of the ball for 25:08 due to ineffectiveness.

Linebackers Jovan Belcher (6 tackles) and Pierre Walters (5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) led the way for the Chiefs on D in that game.  The Falcons finished up with 100 yards rushing (2.7 ypc) and 144 passing last night as the Chiefs’ D looked solid.

The Chiefs got a lot of yards in this game but it didn’t result in many points.  Tyler Thigpen was not effective at all in this game completing 2 of 7 passes for 49 yards with 2 interceptions.  Brodie Croyle also stunk it up in this game as he only completed 5 of 16 passes for 85 yards.  Matt Gutierrez was the best Chiefs’ QB on this night and that’s not saying much.  He completed 7 of 14 passes for 118 yards.  Dantrell Savage led the way for the Chiefs on the ground with 73 yards on 4 carries (18.3 ypc).  Larry Johnson was also very solid with 5 carries for 58 yards (11.6 ypc).  Jackie Battle was also very busy carrying the ball 8 times for 28 yards (3.5 ypc) and he caught 4 passes for 63 yards (15.8 avg).  The Chiefs only had the ball for 24:28 of this game but they still rolled up 376 total yards on offense (170 rushing, 206 passing).

DT Tank Tyler (9 tackles) and S DaJuan Morgan (7 tackles, interception) led the way for the Chiefs on D in this game.  The Rams finished up with 328 total yards in this game (76 rushing, 252 passing).  The Chiefs finished the pre-season with a 0-4 record.

The Chiefs somehow stayed close in this football game despite only scoring a field goal on offense.  Tyler Thigpen got pulled back off the trade block due to Matt Cassel’s injury and he completed 8 of 15 passes for 56 yards.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 10 yards (3.3 ypc).  Matt Gutierrez didn’t look too sharp in this game as he completed 10 of 13 passes for 113 yards with 2 interceptions.  Jamaal Charles led the way in the running game for the Chiefs with 54 yards on 7 carries (7.7 ypc).  Larry Johnson was also busy with 36 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.5 ypc).  Ashley Lelie led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs with 4 catches for 52 yards (13.0 avg).  The Chiefs finished up with only 260 yards in this game (108 rushing, 152 passing) as they only had possession of the football for 23:21.

LB Demorrio Williams was all over the place in this game as he had 11 tackles.  CB Brandon Flowers didn’t make any tackles but he did intercept a Matt Hasselbeck pass returning it 28 yards for a TD.  The Seahawks rolled up 406 total yards on offense (112 rushing, 294 passing) but it was semi-impressive that the Chiefs only gave up 14 points despite giving up all of those yards.

Minnesota Vikings 17, Kansas City Chiefs 13

The Chiefs threw out another dud in their second pre-season game.  Matt Cassel looked pretty good when he was in the game as he completed 9 of 14 passes for 99 yards with 1 TD pass.   He also carried the ball 2 times for 13 yards (6.5 ypc).  Brodie Croyle looked so-so in this game completing 5 of 10 passes for 41 yards.  Matt Gutierrez looked pretty good completing 8 of 13 passes for 68 yards in this game.  Jackie Battle led the Chiefs with 28 yards rushing on 9 carries (3.1 ypc) but he also lost a fumble.  WR Dwayne Bowe led the Chiefs in the passing game with 3 grabs for 37 yards (12.3 avg) with a TD.  The Chiefs could only muster 298 total yards in this game (106 rushing, 192 passing) against a stout Vikings’ defense.

Linebacker Jovan Belcher led the way for the Chiefs’ defense in this game with 8 tackles.  The defense actually played pretty well when Tarvaris Jackson wasn’t in the game for the Vikings.  The Chiefs held the Vikings to 93 yards rushing (3.4 ypc) which is pretty good when you consider the stable of RBs they have.  But, the Chiefs allowed the Vikings to pass for 267 yards and that is unacceptable.

The Chiefs were very sloppy in this game.  Matt Cassel started at QB and he did not play well completing 2 of 5 passes for 15 yards and he lost a fumble.  Tyler Thigpen was so-so completing 7 of 14 passes for 40 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Brodie Croyle played the best of the Chiefs’ QBs in this game as he completed 12 of 18 passes for 145 yards.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 31 yards (10.3 ypc) in this game.  RB Dantrell Savage led the Chiefs in this game with 39 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.9 ypc).  But, he fumbled twice losing one of them.  Dwayne Bowe led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs with 70 yards on 5 grabs (14.0 avg).  The Chiefs finished up this game with 307 total yards (115 rushing, 192 passing) on offense.

Linebacker Derrick Johnson led a solid effort by the Chiefs’ defense with 6 tackles.  The Texans finished up with 280 total yards of offense in this game (107 rushing, 173 passing).  The Chiefs hope the way the defense played last Saturday was a sign of things to come.

The Chiefs played this football game very close to the vest but it didn’t matter because they won the game.  Brodie Croyle was effective completing 3 of 4 passes for 42 yards.  Damon Huard completed both of his pass attempts for 6 yards including a TD pass to WR Bobby Sippio.  Tyler Thigpen looked terrible again as he didn’t complete a pass in six attempts.  Jackie Battle led the Chiefs in rushing in this game with 55 yards on 9 carries (6.1 ypc).  Jamaal Charles was also effective carrying the football 6 times for 43 yards (7.2 ypc).  Kolby Smith was very tough in this game with 38 yards rushing on 6 carries (6.3 ypc) with 2 TD runs (4 and 14 yarders).  Dantrell Savage did not have a good game as he rushed for 21 yards on 11 carries (1.9 ypc).  The Chiefs finished up with 157 yards rushing on 39 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 5 of 12 passes for 48 yards.

Rookie safety DaJuan Morgan led the Chiefs in this game with 6 tackles and a interception.  The Rams finished up with 106 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 40 passes for 199 yards.  The Chiefs finished up with a 2-2 record this preseason which was a solid one for them.

Miami Dolphins 24, Kansas City Chiefs 0

The Chiefs reverted back to the awful, too conservative offense last Saturday Night and the result was a shutout at the hands of the pitiful Miami Dolphins.  Brodie Croyle started the game and he was awful completing 12 of 21 passes for 110 yards with 1 interception.  Damon Huard wasn’t much better completing 3 of 7 passes for 26 yards with 1 interception.  Tyler Thigpen was really pathetic in this game as he completed 1 of 5 passes for -5 yards with a interception.  Larry Johnson led the Chiefs in rushing in this game with 36 yards rushing on 13 carries (2.8 ypc).  Dantrell Savage had a solid game with 29 yards rushing on 4 carries (7.3 ypc).  Kolby Smith was busy in this game as he carried the ball 4 times for 10 yards (2.5 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 38 yards (9.5 avg).  The Chiefs rushed for 90 yards in this game on 25 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 33 passes for only 99 yards.

Safety Bernard Pollard, cornerback Brandon Flowers and linebackers Pat Thomas and Derrick Johnson each had 4 tackles against the Dolphins to lead the way for the Chiefs’ defense.  The Dolphins finished up with 164 yards rushing on 31 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 22 passes for 108 yards.  The Chiefs can’t afford to play conservative like they did in this game or they will lose another 12 games in 2008.

Arizona Cardinals 27, Kansas City Chiefs 17

The Kansas City Chiefs looked pretty good on offense for the most part last Saturday Night against the Cardinals.  Brodie Croyle was so-so as he completed 7 of 13 passes for 38 yards.  Tyler Thigpen was pretty impressive except for one pass that he threw to CB Dennis Keyes of the Cardinals who returned it 84 yards for a TD.  Thigpen completed 16 of 27 passes for 174 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  He also carried the ball 5 times for 35 yards rushing (7.0 ypc) against the Cardinals.  Larry Johnson looked sharp as he carried the football 14 times for 61 yards (4.4 ypc) on Saturday Night.  Kolby Smith was also very impressive against the Cardinals with 37 yards rushing on 4 carries (9.3 ypc).  WR Kevin McMahan led the way for the Chiefs in this game with 41 yards receiving on 3 catches (13.7 avg).  Fellow WR Maurice Price also caught 3 passes for 34 yards (11.3 avg).  The Chiefs finished up with 153 yards rushing on 29 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 40 passes for 192 yards.  The Chiefs controlled the football for 34:07 last night as they looked solid again on offense.

Linebacker Weston Dacus led the way for the Chiefs defense with 5 tackles on Saturday Night.  DT/DE Turk McBride also had a solid game with 2 tackles and 2 sacks.  Overall the Chiefs defense played pretty well against the Cardinals.  They held the Cardinals to 76 yards on 21 carries (3.6 ypc).  The Cardinals also completed 18 of 25 passes for 139 yards as they held onto the ball for 25:53.

Was I seeing things last night or was this a Herman Edwards’ led team.  The offense looked wide open for the Chiefs and they scored enough point to win……imagine that!  Brodie Croyle started off the football game and he was solid connecting on 6 of 10 passes for 82 yards.  Damon Huard followed Croyle in the game and he was very effective completing 6 of 8 passes for 77 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 interceptions.  Tyler Thigpen finished up the game strong for the Chiefs completing 8 of 16 passes for 113 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Dantrell Savage led the Chiefs in rushing with 30 yards on 5 carries (6.0 ypc).  Larry Johnson also got some work in carrying the football 8 times for 18 yards (2.3 ypc) and scoring a TD on the ground.  Bobby Sippio had a solid game for the Chiefs with 3 grabs for 57 yards (19.0 avg) with a 27-yard TD reception from Tyler Thigpen.  Maurice Price also had a decent game catching 2 passes for 33 yards (16.5 avg) with a 8-yard TD grab from Damon Huard.  The Chiefs finished up with 83 yards rushing on 25 carries (3.3 ypc) last night.  They also completed 20 of 34 passes for 254 yards last night.

The defense was pretty awful for the Chiefs last night.  Linebackers Derrick Johnson, Demorrio Williams, E.J. Kuale and DE Jason Parker led the way for the Chiefs with 4 tackles apiece last night.  The Bears rushed for a stunning 175 yards on 29 carries (6.0 ypc) last night.  The Bears also completed 20 of 34 passes for 187 yards which is terrible for the Chiefs when you consider who was throwing the football for the Bears (Kyle Orton, Rex Grossman and Caleb Hanie).  The Chiefs have some work to do on defense but they need to keep the offense wide open like it was last night.

Just when you think that pre-season Chiefs football can’t be any more boring they throw in a super clunker.  Brodie Croyle got his work in quickly and poorly as he only completed 1 of 4 passes for 15 yards.  Undrafted rookie Jeff Terrell finished up the game by completing 15 of 25 passes for 117 yards with 1 pickoff.  Rookie RB Kolby Smith was a bright spot in this game as he carried the football 7 times for 64 yards (9.1 ypc).  Derrick Ross was also busy with 8 carries for 27 yards (3.4 ypc) and 3 catches for 27 yards (9.0 avg).  Michael Bennett (4 car, 20 yards) and Larry Johnson (3 car, 12 yards) both looked good in their limited time on the football field.  The Chiefs did finish with 148 yards rushing on 27 carries (5.5 ypc) but they only completed 16 of 29 passes for 111 yards.

The defense played tough considering that they weren’t getting any help at all from the offense.  The Chiefs held the Rams to 91 yards rushing on 30 carries (3.0 ypc) and the Rams completed 23 of 32 passes for 196 yards.
