The Kansas City Chiefs fire head coach Todd Haley

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 12 December 2011 at 9:21 pm

The Chiefs have fired 44-year old head coach Todd Haley.  The Chiefs are 5-8 so far this year and they are only averaging 13.3 points per game while allowing 23.5 points per game.  Haley is supposed to be a good offensive coach, but the Chiefs have been pathetic this year, which likely made this decision really an easy one for Chiefs’ management.  Haley finishes his career with a 19-26 (42.2%) during the regular season in his three years in charge of the Chiefs.  He was also 0-1 in the playoffs.  64-year old Romeo Crennel will take over as the Chiefs’ interim head coach.  Crennel has a 24-40 (37.5%) record as a NFL head coach (four years with the Browns).

The Kansas City Chiefs waive Jared Gaither

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 29 November 2011 at 2:30 pm

The Chiefs have waived 25-year old OT Jared Gaither.  Gaither played in 10 games (0 starts) for the Chiefs this year.  He has now played in 43 games (28 starts) in his first five years in the NFL.  This will hurt the depth of the Chiefs’ O-Line a bit, but Gaither wasn’t playing too well this year for them.

The Kansas City Chiefs waive WR Keary Colbert

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 24 November 2011 at 12:47 am

The Chiefs have waived 29-year old WR Keary Colbert.  Colbert played in 7 games for the Chiefs this year and he caught 9 passes for 89 yards (9.9 avg) without a TD catch.  He has now played in 73 games in his NFL career and he has caught 130 passes for 1,629 yards (12.5 avg) with 8 TD grabs.  This could be the end of Colbert’s NFL career and the Chiefs won’t miss him too much going forward.

The Kansas City Chiefs re-sign TE Jake O’Connell and they release TE Anthony Becht

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 29 September 2011 at 10:17 pm

The Chiefs have re-signed 25-year old TE Jake O’Connell.  He has played in 1 game for the Chiefs already this year and he has caught 1 pass for 15 yards.  O’Connell has now played in 20 games in his first three years in the NFL (all with the Chiefs) and he has caught 6 passes for 53 yards (8.8 avg).  The Chiefs released 34-year old TE Anthony Becht to make room on the roster for Jake O’Connell.  Becht played in 2 games for the Chiefs this year but he didn’t catch any passes.

The Kansas City Chiefs release TE Brad Cottam

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 31 July 2011 at 1:07 am

The Chiefs have released 26-year old TE Brad Cottam.  Cottam did not play last year due to injury.  Cottam played in 24 games (8 starts) in his three years with the Chiefs and he caught 16 passes for 183 yards (11.4 avg) with 0 TD grabs.  Cottam just couldn’t stay on the field due to his health which led to his release.  The Chiefs won’t miss him at all going forward.

The Kansas City Chiefs release WR Chris Chambers

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 31 July 2011 at 1:05 am

The Chiefs have released 32-year old WR Chris Chambers.  Chambers played in 13 games (7 starts) for the Chiefs last year and he caught 22 passes for 213 yards (9.7 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He played in 22 games (16 starts) in his two years with the Chiefs and he caught 58 passes for 821 yards (14.2 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  The Chiefs have loaded up at WR in the off-season so they don’t need Chambers around anymore.

The Kansas City Chiefs waive Charlie Anderson

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 15 November 2010 at 2:46 pm

The Chiefs have waived 28-year old linebacker Charlie Anderson.  Anderson played in 2 games for the Chiefs this year but he didn’t make any tackles.  Anderson has played in 94 games (8 starts) in his 7 years in the NFL and he has 122 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 4 passes defensed and 4 forced fumbles.  The Chiefs shouldn’t miss Anderson too much as he hasn’t been much of a player to this point in his career.

UPDATE:  (11/17/2010) – The Chiefs have re-signed Charlie Anderson after Mark Simoneau was injured against the Broncos.  Simoneau has been played on the Injured Reserve List because of an unspecified injury.  Simoneau had 1 tackle against the Broncos which was his only game he played this year for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs send DE/DT Alex Magee to the Buccaneers

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town,Trades by admin on Wednesday 20 October 2010 at 5:28 pm

The Chiefs have traded 23-year old DE/DT Alex Magee and a 6th round pick in 2011 to the Buccaneers for a 5th round pick in 2011.  Magee played in 2 games for the Chiefs this year and he had 2 tackles.  Magee played in 17 games in two years with the Chiefs and he had 10 tackles and 2 sacks.  Magee was a 3rd round pick out of Purdue in 2009 but he just doesn’t seem to be a good fit in Romeo Crennel’s defense.  With that in mind I really like this deal for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs release Lance Long

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 1 September 2010 at 12:41 pm

The Chiefs have released 25-year old WR Lance Long.  Long played in 7 games for the Chiefs last season and he caught 20 passes for 178 yards (8.9 avg).  This is a good sign for the Chiefs as Long just wasn’t that good.  They actually did him a favor by cutting him now as it gives him a chance to maybe hook on with another team before the season starts.

The Kansas City Chiefs waive Brad Cottam

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 29 July 2010 at 8:42 am

The Chiefs have waived 25-year old TE Brad Cottam.  Cottam played in 8 games (1 start) for the Chiefs last season and he caught 9 passes for 120 yards (13.3 avg).  He played in 24 games (8 starts) in his two years in K.C. in which he caught 16 passes for 183 yards (11.4 avg).  Cottam has a hard time staying healthy (which the Chiefs knew when they drafted him) and that’s the reason they are letting him go.  Not much of a loss here.
