The Chiefs have placed 24-year old cornerback Jackie Bates on I.R., ending his season due to a knee injury.  Bates played in 2 games for the Chiefs this year and he had 1 tackle.  The Chiefs have signed 27-year old QB Tyler Palko off the practice squad to replace Bates on the active roster.  Palko will be the #3 QB behind Matt Cassel and Brodie Croyle.  The Chiefs shouldn’t miss Bates at all.

The Kansas City Chiefs ink Mark Simoneau

The Chiefs have signed 33-year old linebacker Mark Simoneau.  Simoneau hasn’t played since the 2007 season with the Siants.  He has played in 123 games in his NFL career and he has 415 tackles, 15 passes defensed, 7 interceptions, 8 forced fumbles and 1 interception.  If Simoneau is healthy and well rested he should provide the Chiefs’ D with nice depth at linebacker.

UPDATE:  (11/17/2010) – The Chiefs have placed Simoneau on I.R. due to a unspecified injury.  He played in 1 game for the Chiefs this year and he had 1 tackle.

The Chiefs have signed 28-year old outside linebacker Charlie Anderson.  Anderson played in 16 games for the Dolphins last season and he had 17 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.  He has now played in 92 games in his NFL career and he has 122 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 7.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.  This was a very solid pick-up for the Chiefs.  The Chiefs also placed 22-year old rookie 4th round pick Cameron Sheffield (OLB) on the Injured Reserve List with a neck injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without Tyson Jackson for a week or two

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 14 September 2010 at 10:58 pm

The Chiefs will be without starting DE Tyson Jackson for 1-2 weeks due to a sprained MCL in his left knee.  Jackson had 6 tackles in the season opener last night against the Chargers.  Shaun Smith will replace Jackson at DE until he’s ready to return to action.  Smith had 3 tackles against the Chargers last night.  This will hurt the pass rush of the Chiefs until Jackson is ready to return to action.

The Kansas City Chiefs place WR Jerheme Urban on I.R.

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 8 September 2010 at 2:53 pm

The Chiefs have placed 29-year old WR Jerheme Urban on the Injured Reserve List due to a torn flexor tendon in a finger on his right hand.  Urban played in 10 games for the Cardinals last season in which he caught 18 passes for 186 yards (10.3 avg) last season.  The Chiefs were banking on Urban being their #3 or #4 WR in 2010.

The Kansas City Chiefs shut down a couple of players

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Saturday 26 December 2009 at 8:20 pm

The Chiefs have shut down safety DaJuan Morgan (chest) and linebacker Justin Rogers (thigh) for the rest of the season.  Morgan played in 13 games for the Chiefs this season and he made 18 tackles while Rogers played in 1 game and he made 1 tackle.  The only area these injuries could possibly hurt the Chiefs is on special teams.

The Kansas City Chiefs lose TE Brad Cottam for the year

The Chiefs have lost 2nd year TE Brad Cottam for the year due to a cracked bone in his vertebra.  Cottam played in 8 games for the Chiefs this season and he caught 9 passes for 120 yards (13.3 avg).  In his two years with the Chiefs, Cottam has played in 24 games in which he has caught 16 passes for 183 yards (11.4 avg).  This is a shame as Cottam really played well before getting injured against the Browns last Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs lose Kolby Smith for the year

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 9 December 2009 at 11:26 pm

The Chiefs have lost running back Kolby Smith for the year as he has been placed on the Injured Reserve List.  Smith played in 4 games for the Chiefs this season and he carried the ball 15 times for 33 yards (2.2 ypc).  He also caught 2 passes for 9 yards (4.5 avg) this year.  The Chiefs will miss him as they can’t afford to lose depth at RB.

The Kansas City Chiefs lose Mike Vrabel indefinitely

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 20 November 2009 at 6:41 pm

The Chiefs have lost 34-year old OLB Mike Vrabel indefinitely with a knee injury.  He has played in 9 games for the Chiefs this season and he has made 33 tackles, has 1 sack, 2 tackles for a loss, forced 1 fumble and he has defensed 3 passes.  Vrabel has been a huge disappointment for the Chiefs this season so they probably won’t miss him too much.

The Kansas City Chiefs lose RG Mike Goff for the rest of the year

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Saturday 14 November 2009 at 1:41 am

The Chiefs have placed starting right guard Mike Goff on the Injured Reserve List ending his season with a shoulder injury.  Goff played in 8 games for the Chiefs this season (7 starts).  Andy Alleman will replace Goff in the starting lineup.  He has played in 5 games (1 start) for the Chiefs this season.  He has now played in 20 games (5 starts) in his three year NFL career.  This is a bit of a dropoff for the Chiefs.
