The Kansas City Chiefs lose safety Jarrad Page for the season

The Kansas City Chiefs have lost free safety Jarrad Page for the season due to a severe pulled calf muscle.  He played in 5 games (all starts) for the Chiefs this season and he made 19 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, defensed 2 passes and he forced 1 fumble.  This is a big loss for the Chiefs who will also be without Jon McGraw this week due to a undisclosed injury.  McGraw has played in 7 games (2 starts) for the Chiefs this season and he had made 13 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and he has 1 sack.   The injuries to Page and McGraw have left the Chiefs will only two active safeties on the roster.  That likely means that Mike Brown and DaJuan Morgan will be starting against the Jaguars this Sunday.  Mike Brown has played in 7 games (all starts) for the Chiefs this season and he has 43 tackles and 1 sack.  Morgan has played in 7 games (0 starts) and he has made 4 tackles this season.  If the Jaguars look to throw the ball this week they will likely find little trouble moving the ball against the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs place RB Jackie Battle on I.R.

The Chiefs have placed running back Jackie Battle on the Injured Reserve List with a shoulder problem ending his season.  Battle played in all 5 games for the Chiefs this season and he carried the ball 7 times for 21 yards (3.0 ypc).  He also caught 2 passes for -3 yards (-1.5 avg) this season for the Chiefs.  This is not a huge loss for the Chiefs as Battle was #4 on the depth chart at running back for them.

The Kansas City Chiefs lose Devard Darling for the season

The Chiefs have lost Devard Darling for the season due to a torn ACL.  Darling caught 3 passes for 19 yards (6.3 avg) this pre-season for the Chiefs.  This is a shame for Darling who was starting to come into his own as a late bloomer.  Darling played in all 16 games (9 starts) for the Chiefs last season and he caught 17 passes for 247 yards (14.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.

Matt Cassel is questionable for the season opener for the Kansas City Chiefs

Matt Cassel is likely out for 2-4 weeks due to MCL and ankle injuries putting the start of the season in jeopardy.  Cassel has completed 11 of 19 passes for 114 yards with 1 TD pass (92.9 QB Rating) this pre-season.  He has been without a doubt the best QB on the Chiefs’ roster.  If he can’t go when the season opens, Tyler Thigpen will get the call.  He has completed 15 of 29 passes (51.7%) for 96 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception (56.1 QB Rating).  He has also carried the football 6 times for 41 yards (6.8 ypc) in the pre-season.  Thigpen proved last season that he is a capable starting QB so the Chiefs are fortunate that they didn’t trade him before the season started.

The Kansas City Chiefs lose Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Chiefs News, Injury Reports, General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Saturday 25 October 2008 at 6:00 pm

The Chiefs really got beat up last week as they lost both Brodie Croyle (torn MCL) and Damon Huard (torn ligaments in finger) for the rest of the season.  Croyle finished up this season completing 20 of 29 passes (69%) for 151 yards with 0 TDs and 0 INTs (81.3 QB Rating).  The Chiefs really need to look for a different QB to lead them in the future as Croyle is way too injury prone to depend on.  Huard has completed 50 of 81 passes (61.7%) this season for 477 yards with 2 TD passes and 4 interceptions (65.7 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 4 times for 13 yards (3.3 ypc) in what was likely his last season in Kansas City.  The starting job now falls to Tyler Thigpen and that’s not a good thing for the Chiefs.  He has completed 38 of 90 passes (42.2%) for 392 yards with 2 TD passes and 4 interceptions (44.3 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 9 times for 61 yards (6.8 ypc) with a TD this season.  Look for the Chiefs to have a very nice draft pick in the first round next season and they should seriously consider a QB in round #1.
