Kansas City Chiefs 44, Denver Broncos 24

The Kansas City Chiefs (4-12) had their best game of the year and easily beat the Denver Broncos (8-8) to wrap up their 2009 season.  With this win the Chiefs spoiled the Broncos playoff hopes, and Jamaal Charles was the big reason why.  Charles rushed for 259 yards on 25 carries, which is a new Chiefs record.  He also rushed for 2 touchdowns, while Matt Cassel went 13/24 for 207 yards and 1 interception.  The Chiefs only had a 3 point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but strong defense and a big run by Charles helped the Chiefs outscore the Broncos 17-0 in the final quarter.

The Chiefs’ defense really came to play in this game, especially linebacker Derrick Johnson.  Johnson had not one, but two big interception returns for a touchdown.  The first was in the third quarter, when he intercepted Kyle Orton and returned it 45-yards for a touchdown.  The second one came in the 4th quarter, intercepting Orton again and returning 60 yards to help seal the win.  This was a nice way to end not only their season, but spoiling the Broncos season as well.

The Chiefs gave it everything they had yesterday before falling just a tad short.  Matt Cassel was so-so completing 23 of 37 passes for 180 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 21 yards (7.0 ypc) yesterday.  Jamaal Charles had another effective game on the ground finishing with 102 yards rushing on 24 carries (4.3 ypc).  Dwayne Bowe led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs yesterday with 9 grabs for 61 yards (6.8 avg).  Fullback Tim Castille caught 1 pass for 20 yards and it went for a TD.  The Chiefs finished up with 295 total yards on offense (123 rushing, 172 passing) in this game.

Safety Mike Brown (12 tackles) and linebacker Demorrio Williams (9 tackles) led the way for the Chiefs’ on D yesterday.  The Bengals finished up with 274 total yards on offense (144 rushing, 130 passing) in this game.  The Chiefs are now 3-12 on the year.

Cleveland Browns 41, Kansas City Chiefs 34

The bozo on the sidelines (Todd Haley) and the defense cost the Chiefs this game despite a huge game from the offense.  The coach is a dingbat for kicking the ball to Josh Cribbs.  Cribbs returned two kickoffs for TDs in this game (100 and 103 yarders) despite Coach Haley knowing that he is the best kickoff returner in the world right now.  It was STUPID!  The defense was awful too as Jerome Harrison of the Browns rushed for 286 yard on 34 carries (8.4 ypc) with 3 TD runs!  Harrison’s total yards rushing was the third highest of all-time in a NFL game!  Linebacker Demorrio Williams (13 tackles) and safety DaJuan Morgan (8 tackles) led the way on D for the Chiefs today.  DE Andy Studebaker only had two tackles but he recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD today.  The Browns finished up with 417 total yards on offense (351 rushing, 66 passing).

The offense was electric for the Chiefs today despite only having the ball for 25:35 of the game.  Matt Cassel had a great game completing 22 of 40 passes for 331 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He was victimized by a lot of drops in this game by Chiefs’ receivers.  Cassel also carried the ball 2 times for 10 yards (5.0 ypc) today.  Jamaal Charles had a monster game again just like I predicted he would with 154 yards rushing on 25 carries (6.2 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 2 passes for 16 yards (8.0 avg) today.  Chris Chambers led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs today with 5 grabs for 114 yards (22.8 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Brad Cottam (4 rec, 62 yards), Dwayne Bowe (4 rec, 56 yards) and Mark Bradley (3 rec, 52 yards, TD) all pitched in for the Chiefs in the passing game today.  The Chiefs finished up with 491 total yards on offense (168 rushing, 323 passing) in this game.  The Chiefs are now 3-11 on the year.

The Chiefs could have won this game if they just didn’t turn the ball over as much as they did.  Matt Cassel was the main culprit as he completed 26 of 43 passes for 224 yards with 0 TD passes and 4 INTs.  The Chiefs screwed up when they kept throwing the ball instead of handing it off to Jamaal Charles who was a beast today.  Charles carried the ball 20 times for 143 yards (7.2 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 7 passes for 38 yards (5.4 avg).  Chris Chambers led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs with 50 yards receiving on 4 grabs (12.5 avg).  Leonard Pope (4 rec, 45 yards) and Bobby Wade (4 rec, 34 yards) both pitched in for the Chiefs in the passing game today.  The Chiefs finished up with 354 total yards on offense (152 rushing, 202 passing) in this game.

Safety Mike Brown led the way for the Chiefs’ on D today with 9 tackles.  LB Demorrio Williams and DE Tyson Jackson pitched in with 8 tackles apiece in this game.  The Bills finished up with 273 total yards on offense (200 rushing, 73 passing) in this game.  The Chiefs are now 3-10 on the year.

Kansas City Chiefs 13, Denver Broncos 44

The Kansas City Chiefs (3-9) played awful on Sunday and were crushed by the Denver Broncos (8-4).  Despite forcing three turnovers, the Chiefs still let the Broncos put up 44 points.  They let the Broncos run all over them, literally.  The Broncos went for 245 rushing yards as a team and Knowshon Moreno rushed for two touchdowns.  They also let Kyle Orton pass for two touchdowns, even though he accounted for all three of the Broncos’ turnovers (2 fumbles, 1 interception).

The Chiefs offense was just as bad as their defense.  Matt Cassel played terribly, throwing 2 interceptions and 0 touchdowns while completing only 10/29 passes for 84 yards.  Jamaal Charles was the only offense they could get, and it wasn’t much.  He rushed for one touchdown and 56 yards on 18 carries.  The Chiefs need to do a much better job of taking advantage of turnovers.  They forced three turnovers and were not able to get much out of them.
