The Kansas City Chiefs sign WR Keary Colbert

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Thursday 11 August 2011 at 12:59 pm

The Chiefs have signed 29-year old WR Keary Colbert.  Colbert last played in an NFL game way back in 2008.  Colbert has played in 68 games (49 starts) in his first five years in the NFL and he has caught 121 passes for 1,540 yards (12.7 avg) with 8 TD grabs.  It will be interesting to see how rusty Colbert is.  If he gets up to speed quickly, he could help the Chiefs off the bench in 2011.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign DT Amon Gordon

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Sunday 7 August 2011 at 11:04 pm

The Chiefs have signed 29-year old DT Amon Gordon.  Gordon played in 4 games for the Seahawks and Titans last year and he had 4 tackles.  Gordon has now played in 17 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 33 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 forced fumble.  Gordon is likely just a big body who will be around for depth reasons.  This is not a big move for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign safety Sabby Piscitelli

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 1:21 pm

The Chiefs have signed 28-year old safety Sabby Piscitelli.  Piscitelli played in 16 games for the Bucs+Browns last year and he had 19 tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 50 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 154 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 14 passes defensed and 5 interceptions.  Piscitelli could help the Chiefs on special teams but he’s not a good safety as he looks like a matador in the open field quite a bit.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign FB/RB Le’Ron McClain

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Thursday 4 August 2011 at 4:03 pm

The Chiefs have signed 26-year old fullback Le’Ron McClain.  McClain played in 15 games (13 starts) for the Ravens last year and he carried the ball 28 times for 85 yards (3.0 ypc).  He also caught 21 passes for 134 yards (6.4 avg) last year.  McClain has now played in 63 games (54 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 314 times for 1,185 yards (3.8 ypc) with 12 TD runs.  He has also caught 70 passes for 453 yards (6.5 avg) with 2 TD grabs in his career.  McClain’s biggest job will be as a lead blocker for the Chiefs in 2011, but he’s also a very capable runner when called upon.  This is another solid pickup for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign LB Brandon Siler

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 3:00 am

The Chiefs have signed 25-year old linebacker Brandon Siler.  Siler played in 12 games for the Chargers last year and he had 44 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Siler has now played in 58 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 161 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  This was a good pickup for the Chiefs as Siler should help out the run defense when he’s on the field.

UPDATE: (8/25/2011) – The Chiefs have lost Brandon Siler for the whole 2011 season due to a torn Achilles tendon.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign DT Kelly Gregg

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 6:14 pm

The Chiefs have signed 34-year old DT Kelly Gregg to a 1-year deal.  Gregg played in all 16 games for the Ravens last year and he had 38 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  He has now played in 137 games in his first 10 years and he has 512 tackles, 34 tackles for a loss, 19.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 6 fumble recoveries and 9 passes defensed.  This is a good signing for the Chiefs as Gregg plays hard on every down and that will rub off on his teammates.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign WR Steve Breaston

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 7:47 pm

The Chiefs have signed 27-year old WR Steve Breaston to a 5-year contract.  Breaston played in 13 games (11 starts) for the Cardinals last year and he caught 47 passes for 718 yards (15.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Those are amazing numbers to put up seeing how the Cardinals’ QBs really sucked last year.  Breaston also carried the ball 3 times for 35 yards (11.7 ypc) last year.  Breaston has now played in 60 games (26 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 187 passes for 2,528 yards (13.5 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  He also has carried the ball 9 times for 96 yards (10.7 ypc) so far in his NFL career.  Breaston has also returned 113 punts for 885 yards (7.8 avg) with a TD return and he has returned 102 kickoffs for 2,220 yards (21.8 avg).  The Chiefs have the return game taken care of, so Breaston will only be a return man if the Chiefs suffer some injuries.  Chiefs’ QB Matt Cassel has to be really foaming at the mouth right now as the prospects of throwing the ball to Breaston, Dwayne Bowe, rookie WR Jonathan Baldwin and TE Tony Moeaki.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign Kevin Curtis

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Thursday 6 January 2011 at 1:10 am

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed 32-year old WR Kevin Curtis.  Curtis played in 2 games earlier this year for the Dolphins and he caught 1 pass for 6 yards.  He also had 1 carry for 6 yards for the Fins.  He has now played in 81 games in his NFL career and he has caught 253 passes for 3,297 yards (13.0 avg) with 20 TD grabs.  Curtis also carried the ball 9 times for 39 yards (4.3 ypc) with 1 TD run so far in his career.  I like this signing for the Chiefs as Curtis will give them quality depth at WR for the playoffs.

The Kansas City Chiefs ink Mark Simoneau

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 28 October 2010 at 8:47 pm

The Chiefs have signed 33-year old linebacker Mark Simoneau.  Simoneau hasn’t played since the 2007 season with the Siants.  He has played in 123 games in his NFL career and he has 415 tackles, 15 passes defensed, 7 interceptions, 8 forced fumbles and 1 interception.  If Simoneau is healthy and well rested he should provide the Chiefs’ D with nice depth at linebacker.

UPDATE:  (11/17/2010) – The Chiefs have placed Simoneau on I.R. due to a unspecified injury.  He played in 1 game for the Chiefs this year and he had 1 tackle.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign DT Atiyyah Ellison

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Wednesday 20 October 2010 at 5:31 pm

The Chiefs have signed 29-year old DT Atiyyah Ellison.  Ellison played in 15 games last season for the Jaguars and he had 16 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  Ellison is a big guy at 6’3″, 315 pounds so they hope that he’ll do a good job inside of helping out the run defense.

UPDATE:  (10/28/2010) – The Chiefs have released Ellison before he even got into a game.
