The Kansas City Chiefs sign WR Steve Breaston

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 7:47 pm

The Chiefs have signed 27-year old WR Steve Breaston to a 5-year contract.  Breaston played in 13 games (11 starts) for the Cardinals last year and he caught 47 passes for 718 yards (15.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Those are amazing numbers to put up seeing how the Cardinals’ QBs really sucked last year.  Breaston also carried the ball 3 times for 35 yards (11.7 ypc) last year.  Breaston has now played in 60 games (26 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 187 passes for 2,528 yards (13.5 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  He also has carried the ball 9 times for 96 yards (10.7 ypc) so far in his NFL career.  Breaston has also returned 113 punts for 885 yards (7.8 avg) with a TD return and he has returned 102 kickoffs for 2,220 yards (21.8 avg).  The Chiefs have the return game taken care of, so Breaston will only be a return man if the Chiefs suffer some injuries.  Chiefs’ QB Matt Cassel has to be really foaming at the mouth right now as the prospects of throwing the ball to Breaston, Dwayne Bowe, rookie WR Jonathan Baldwin and TE Tony Moeaki.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign Kevin Curtis

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed 32-year old WR Kevin Curtis.  Curtis played in 2 games earlier this year for the Dolphins and he caught 1 pass for 6 yards.  He also had 1 carry for 6 yards for the Fins.  He has now played in 81 games in his NFL career and he has caught 253 passes for 3,297 yards (13.0 avg) with 20 TD grabs.  Curtis also carried the ball 9 times for 39 yards (4.3 ypc) with 1 TD run so far in his career.  I like this signing for the Chiefs as Curtis will give them quality depth at WR for the playoffs.

The Kansas City Chiefs ink Mark Simoneau

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 28 October 2010 at 8:47 pm

The Chiefs have signed 33-year old linebacker Mark Simoneau.  Simoneau hasn’t played since the 2007 season with the Siants.  He has played in 123 games in his NFL career and he has 415 tackles, 15 passes defensed, 7 interceptions, 8 forced fumbles and 1 interception.  If Simoneau is healthy and well rested he should provide the Chiefs’ D with nice depth at linebacker.

UPDATE:  (11/17/2010) – The Chiefs have placed Simoneau on I.R. due to a unspecified injury.  He played in 1 game for the Chiefs this year and he had 1 tackle.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign DT Atiyyah Ellison

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Wednesday 20 October 2010 at 5:31 pm

The Chiefs have signed 29-year old DT Atiyyah Ellison.  Ellison played in 15 games last season for the Jaguars and he had 16 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  Ellison is a big guy at 6’3″, 315 pounds so they hope that he’ll do a good job inside of helping out the run defense.

UPDATE:  (10/28/2010) – The Chiefs have released Ellison before he even got into a game.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign Charlie Anderson

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 15 September 2010 at 10:33 pm

The Chiefs have signed 28-year old outside linebacker Charlie Anderson.  Anderson played in 16 games for the Dolphins last season and he had 17 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.  He has now played in 92 games in his NFL career and he has 122 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 7.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.  This was a very solid pick-up for the Chiefs.  The Chiefs also placed 22-year old rookie 4th round pick Cameron Sheffield (OLB) on the Injured Reserve List with a neck injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign Ryan Lilja

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Wednesday 17 March 2010 at 12:26 pm

The Chiefs have signed 28-year old guard Ryan Lilja to a 3-year deal.  Lilja started all 16 games for the Colts last season.  He has now played in 66 games (59 starts) in his five year NFL career.  This was a outstanding signing for the Chiefs who will likely start him at left guard in 2010.  The Chiefs are making smart moves as they are rebuilding the offensive line.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign G/C Casey Wiegmann

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Friday 12 March 2010 at 11:03 pm

The Chiefs have signed 36-year old G/C Casey Wiegmann to a 1-year, $2 million dollar deal.  Wiegmann started all 16 games for the Broncos last season.  He has now played in 195 games (168 starts) in his NFL career.  Wiegmann is returning to the Chiefs who he played for from 2001-07 appearing in 111 games (all starts).  This was a good move for the Chiefs as Wiegmann will improve the interior of the O-Line.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign Jerheme Urban

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Thursday 11 March 2010 at 10:21 am

The Chiefs have signed 29-year old WR Jerheme Urban.  Urban played for Coach Haley in Arizona and that shows that he likes him.  Urban played in 10 games for the Cardinals last season and he has caught 18 passes for 186 yards (10.3 avg).  He has now played in 47 games in his NFL career in which he has caught 87 passes for 1,231 yards (14.1 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  Look for him to be the Chiefs #3 or #4  WR in 2010.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign DT Shaun Smith

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Wednesday 10 March 2010 at 5:32 pm

The Chiefs have signed 28-year old, 6’2″, 325 pound DT Shaun Smith to a 1-year deal.  Smith played in 3 games for the Bengals last season in which he made 8 tackles.  Smith has played in 63 games in his NFL career in which he has made 152 tackles, defensed 4 passes, has 2 sacks and he has forced 2 fumbles.  This was a smart, low risk/high reward signing for the Chiefs.

Thomas Jones signs a 2-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Tuesday 9 March 2010 at 5:40 pm

The Chiefs have signed 31-year old running back Thomas Jones to a 2-year, $5 million dollar deal with another possible $500K in incentives.  Jones played in all 16 games for the Jets last season and he carried the ball 331 times for 1,402 yards (4.2 ypc) with 14 TD runs.  He also caught 10 passes for 58 yards (5.8 avg) last year.  Jones has now played in 148 games in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 2,280 times for 9,217 yards (4.0 ypc) with 62 TD grabs.  He also caught 289 passes for 1,858 yards (6.4 avg) with 3 TD grabs in his career.  This was a outstanding signing for the Chiefs who now have an awesome tandem at RB set for the 2010 and 2011 seasons with Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones.
