The Kansas City Chiefs sign OT Jared Gaither

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Friday 12 August 2011 at 4:10 pm

The Chiefs have signed 25-year old OT Jared Gaither.  Gaither is a mountain of a man at 6’9″, 340 pounds and he’s a good tackle when he’s healthy.  He missed all of last season though to a back injury.  Gaither has played in 33 games (28 starts) in his first four years in the NFL.  If Gaither can stay healthy, this signing will be a steal for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign WR Keary Colbert

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Thursday 11 August 2011 at 12:59 pm

The Chiefs have signed 29-year old WR Keary Colbert.  Colbert last played in an NFL game way back in 2008.  Colbert has played in 68 games (49 starts) in his first five years in the NFL and he has caught 121 passes for 1,540 yards (12.7 avg) with 8 TD grabs.  It will be interesting to see how rusty Colbert is.  If he gets up to speed quickly, he could help the Chiefs off the bench in 2011.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign DT Amon Gordon

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Sunday 7 August 2011 at 11:04 pm

The Chiefs have signed 29-year old DT Amon Gordon.  Gordon played in 4 games for the Seahawks and Titans last year and he had 4 tackles.  Gordon has now played in 17 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 33 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 forced fumble.  Gordon is likely just a big body who will be around for depth reasons.  This is not a big move for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs re-sign CB Brandon Carr

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 1:24 pm

The Chiefs have re-signed 25-year old CB Brandon Carr to a 1-year deal.  Carr played in all 16 games for the Chiefs last year and he had 57 tackles, 1 interception, 25 passes defensed and 1 fumble recovery.  He has now played in 48 games in his first three years with the Chiefs and he has 192 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble, 4 fumble recoveries, 50 passes defensed and 4 interceptions.  Carr will give the Chiefs a pretty nice pair of starting corners with Brandon Flowers on the other side.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign safety Sabby Piscitelli

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 1:21 pm

The Chiefs have signed 28-year old safety Sabby Piscitelli.  Piscitelli played in 16 games for the Bucs+Browns last year and he had 19 tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 50 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 154 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 14 passes defensed and 5 interceptions.  Piscitelli could help the Chiefs on special teams but he’s not a good safety as he looks like a matador in the open field quite a bit.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign FB/RB Le’Ron McClain

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Thursday 4 August 2011 at 4:03 pm

The Chiefs have signed 26-year old fullback Le’Ron McClain.  McClain played in 15 games (13 starts) for the Ravens last year and he carried the ball 28 times for 85 yards (3.0 ypc).  He also caught 21 passes for 134 yards (6.4 avg) last year.  McClain has now played in 63 games (54 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 314 times for 1,185 yards (3.8 ypc) with 12 TD runs.  He has also caught 70 passes for 453 yards (6.5 avg) with 2 TD grabs in his career.  McClain’s biggest job will be as a lead blocker for the Chiefs in 2011, but he’s also a very capable runner when called upon.  This is another solid pickup for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs re-sign DE Wallace Gilberry

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 3:04 am

The Chiefs have re-signed 26-year old DE Wallace Gilberry to a 1-year deal.  Gilberry played in all 16 games for the Chiefs last year and he had 23 tackles, 7 sacks, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defensed.  Gilberry has now played in 37 games in his first three years with the Chiefs and he has 47 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 pass defensed.  Defensive co-ordinator maximized Gilberry’s skills by only using him on passing downs.  Look for the same from the situational pass rusher in 2011.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign LB Brandon Siler

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 3:00 am

The Chiefs have signed 25-year old linebacker Brandon Siler.  Siler played in 12 games for the Chargers last year and he had 44 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Siler has now played in 58 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 161 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  This was a good pickup for the Chiefs as Siler should help out the run defense when he’s on the field.

UPDATE: (8/25/2011) – The Chiefs have lost Brandon Siler for the whole 2011 season due to a torn Achilles tendon.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign DT Kelly Gregg

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 6:14 pm

The Chiefs have signed 34-year old DT Kelly Gregg to a 1-year deal.  Gregg played in all 16 games for the Ravens last year and he had 38 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  He has now played in 137 games in his first 10 years and he has 512 tackles, 34 tackles for a loss, 19.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 6 fumble recoveries and 9 passes defensed.  This is a good signing for the Chiefs as Gregg plays hard on every down and that will rub off on his teammates.

The Kansas City Chiefs release TE Brad Cottam

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 31 July 2011 at 1:07 am

The Chiefs have released 26-year old TE Brad Cottam.  Cottam did not play last year due to injury.  Cottam played in 24 games (8 starts) in his three years with the Chiefs and he caught 16 passes for 183 yards (11.4 avg) with 0 TD grabs.  Cottam just couldn’t stay on the field due to his health which led to his release.  The Chiefs won’t miss him at all going forward.
