Kansas City Chiefs 42, Seattle Seahawks 24

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Monday 29 November 2010 at 10:51 pm

The Chiefs completely dominated this game yesterday as they were ball hogs.  Matt Cassel was outstanding once again yesterday as he completed 22 of 32 passes for 233 yards with 4 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 5 times for 28 yards (5.6  ypc) yesterday.  Jamaal Charles led the way for the Chiefs on the ground with 173 yards rushing on 22 carries (7.9 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 2 passes for 3 yards (1.5 avg).  Thomas Jones pitched in with 68 yards rushing on 20 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also caught 3 passes for 14 yards (4.7 avg).  WR Dwayne Bowe (13 rec, 170 yards, 3 TDs) had a monster game and rookie TE Tony Moeaki (1 rec, 6 yards, TD) also pitched in to help out the passing game.  The Chiefs finished up with 270 yards rushing on 48 carries (5.6 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 32 passes for 233 yards as they had possession of the ball for 41:03.

The defense was solid but not spectacular in this game.  CB Javier Arenas (7 tackles, 1 pass defensed), LB Derrick Johnson (6 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 1 QB hit) and OLB Tamba Hali (4 tackles) led the way for the Chiefs on D yesterday.  Rookie safety Kendrick Lewis picked off a pass yesterday for the Chiefs.  The Seahawks finished up with 20 yards rushing on 12 carries (1.7 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 37 passes for 268 yards.  The Chiefs are now 7-4 on the season and they are still in first place in the AFC West, 1 game ahead of the Chargers.

Kansas City Chiefs (6-4) vs. Seattle Seahawks (5-5)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 27 November 2010 at 1:12 am

The Chiefs are 1-4 on the road this season where they have been outscored 139-105.  The Seahawks are tough at home where they are 3-1.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Chiefs have the ball:  The Chiefs would be smart to change things up a little bit in this game.  The Seahawks know the Chiefs have a great running game so why not take advantage of that by throwing more often on first down.  Matt Cassel has played well lately and Dwayne Bowe has been unstoppable as of late.  The Seahawks are giving up 283.2 yards passing per game this season so the Chiefs will likely have success through the air.  Make no mistake though, the Chiefs are going to run the ball at the Seahawks D a lot in this game with Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones.

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The Chiefs need to get after Matt Hasselbeck in this game.  That’s because the Seahawks are only averaging 83.7 yards rushing per game and 3.5 ypc so their RBs don’t scare anyone.  The Chiefs are allowing 244.3 yards passing per game this year so the Seahawks should have some success through the air.  If Hasselbeck has time to throw the ball the Chiefs are going to be in trouble as he likes to spread the ball around to a lot of receivers.

PREDICTION:  SEAHAWKS 23, CHIEFS 20

Kansas City Chiefs 31, Arizona Cardinals 13

Blogged under Blogroll,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Monday 22 November 2010 at 4:48 pm

The Chiefs made the Cardinals pay for every mistake they made yesterday.  Matt Cassel had another solid game for the Chiefs yesterday by completing 15 of 24 passes for 193 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Jamaal Charles was very effective in this game with 12 carries for 88 yards (7.3 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 38 yards (9.5 avg).  Thomas Jones pitched in with 15 carries for 71 yards (4.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs in this game.  Dwayne Bowe led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs yesterday with 6 grabs for 109 yards (18.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  The Chiefs finished up with 159 yards rushing on 29 carries (5.5 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 24 passes for 193 yards as they only had the ball for 27:38 in this game.

CB Javier Arenas had his best defensive game of his young career yesterday as he had 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 2 QB hits.  Safety Eric Berry and LB Jovan Belcher each had 8 tackles apiece in this game for the Chiefs.  The Cardinals finished up with 101 yards rushing on 20 carries (5.1 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 46 passes for 281 yards.  The Chiefs are now back atop of the AFC West by themselves with a 6-4 record.

Arizona Cardinals (3-6) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (5-4)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 18 November 2010 at 11:33 pm

The Chiefs have lost two games in a row but they were on the road.  They are returning home to Arrowhead Stadium this weekend where they are 4-0 on the year, outscoring the competition 107-54!  The Cardinals have lost 4 games in a row and they are not a good road team.  The Cardinals are only 1-4 on the road this year where they have been outscored 144-68!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Chiefs have the ball:  The Chiefs want to get back to running the ball.  Jamaal Charles & Thomas Jones should find quite a bit of running room against the Cardinals who are allowing 132.4 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.  The Cardinals are also giving up 269.3 yards passing per game this year so look for Matt Cassel to take some shots deep off of play action to Dwyane Bowe and maybe even Chris Chambers.

When the Cardinals have the ball:  The Cardinals will come out throwing the ball because they are dingbats.  Derek Anderson has a big time arm but the Chiefs’ corners will have good chances to make big plays in this game as Cardinals’ QBs have been sacked 33 times this year and they have thrown 13 INTs.  The Chiefs still have to be ready to deal with WRs Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston who are playmakers.  Tim Hightower is a pretty good all purpose back but the Cardinals don’t give him the ball much.

PREDICTION:  CHIEFS 37, CARDINALS 13

Todd Haley is turning the Kansas City Chiefs around

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Stepping Up by admin on Thursday 18 November 2010 at 11:13 pm

43-year old head coach Todd Haley is turning the Chiefs around quickly.  I think a big part of the reason for that was the hiring of Charlie Weis (offensive co-ordinator) and Romeo Crennel (defensive co-ordinator).  Hiring a couple of coaches that Haley respected has made a big difference in the overall play of the team.  The Chiefs are a better offensive and defensive team than the one Haley had in his rookie year which the team finished 4-12.  The Chiefs are 4-0 at home this year but only 1-4 on the road.  Haley now has a 9-16 (36%) record in his first two years in charge.  He will get a lot of Coach of the Year votes if he somehow gets his troops to the playoffs.

The Kansas City Chiefs waive Charlie Anderson

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 15 November 2010 at 2:46 pm

The Chiefs have waived 28-year old linebacker Charlie Anderson.  Anderson played in 2 games for the Chiefs this year but he didn’t make any tackles.  Anderson has played in 94 games (8 starts) in his 7 years in the NFL and he has 122 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 4 passes defensed and 4 forced fumbles.  The Chiefs shouldn’t miss Anderson too much as he hasn’t been much of a player to this point in his career.

UPDATE:  (11/17/2010) – The Chiefs have re-signed Charlie Anderson after Mark Simoneau was injured against the Broncos.  Simoneau has been played on the Injured Reserve List because of an unspecified injury.  Simoneau had 1 tackle against the Broncos which was his only game he played this year for the Chiefs.

Denver Broncos 49, Kansas City Chiefs 29

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Monday 15 November 2010 at 11:20 am

The Chiefs didn’t show up for this game as they were down 42-10 with 9:24 left in the third quarter.  Matt Cassel really excelled in garbage time yesterday.  He finished up the game completing 33 of 53 passes for 469 yards with 4 TD passes and 0 INTs.  But, he also lost a fumble that was returned 75 yards for a TD by Broncos’ OLB Jason Hunter.  Jamaal Charles didn’t run too well as he carried the ball 14 times for 41 yards (2.9 ypc) but he also caught 5 passes for 80 yards (16.0 avg) with a TD grab.  Thomas Jones only rushed for 3 yards on 4 carries (0.8 ypc) yesterday and he caught 1 pass for 19 yards.  WR Dwyane Bowe had a monster game for the Chiefs yesterday with 13 catches for 186 yards (14.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  WRs Terrance Copper (5 rec, 55 yards) and Chris Chambers (4 rec, 36 yards, TD) also helped out in the passing game yesterday for the Chiefs.  The Chiefs finished up with 51 yards rushing on 22 carries (2.3 ypc) and they also completed 33 of 53 passes for 433 yards.

LB Derrick Johnson came to play yesterday with 13 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed.  Too bad most of the rest of the guys on the Chiefs’ D failed to show up.  DE Glenn Dorsey (5 tackle) and safety Eric Berry (5 tackles) also pitched in a little bit.  The Broncos finished up with 153 yards on 31 carries (4.9 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 35 passes for 299 yards.  The Chiefs are now 5-4 on the year.

Kansas City Chiefs (5-3) vs. Denver Broncos (2-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 13 November 2010 at 3:14 pm

The last time the Broncos were at home they got drilled 59-14 by the Raiders who ran the ball all over them.  That will likely be the gameplan offensively for the Chiefs tomorrow.  The Broncos have had two weeks to get ready for the Chiefs but they are on a 4-game losing streak.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Chiefs have the football:  The Broncos have a lousy D as they are giving up 154.6 yards rushing and 204.4 yards passing per game so the Chiefs will likely be able to do whatever they want to.  They like to run the ball so look for Thomas Jones & Jamaal Charles to be very successful against the porous run D of the Broncos.  After the running game in established look for Matt Cassel to take some shots off playaction to TE Tony Moeaki and WR Dwayne Bowe.

When the Broncos have the ball:  The Chiefs are going to have to get to Kyle Orton who has been sacked 21 times this year.  Because if he has time to throw the ball he can do some damage.  He has a nice set of WRs in Jabar Gaffney, Brandon Lloyd, Eddie Royal and Demaryius Thomas.  The Broncos are only averaging 67.3 yards rushing per game and 2.9 yards per carry so if the Chiefs stop the Broncos’ passing attack they win the game.

PREDICTION:  CHIEFS 31, BRONCOS 23

Oakland Raiders 23, Kansas City Chiefs 20 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Monday 8 November 2010 at 4:49 pm

The Raiders got a 41-yard field goal with 3 seconds left in regulation and then they beat the Chiefs in O.T.  Matt Cassel wasn’t too bad in this game as he completed 20 of 35 passes for 216 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 14 yards (4.7 ypc) in this game. Jamaal Charles (10 carries, 53 yards and 5 catches for 47 yards) and Thomas Jones (19 carries, 32 yards) led the way for the Chiefs on the ground and they had to fight for every yard.  TE Tony Moeaki (6 rec, 63 yards), WR Dwayne Bowe (5 rec, 63 yards, TD) and WR Verran Tucker (1 rec, 11 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs yesterday.  Tucker also had a tackle and a fumble recovery in this game.  The Chiefs finished up with 104 yards rushing on 34 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 35 passes for 200 yards in this game.

LB Derrick Johnson (8 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 1 pass defensed), safety Jon McGraw (7 tackles, 3 passes defensed and 1 interception) and safety Eric Berry (4 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 3 QB hits) led the way for the Chiefs on D in this game.  Brandon Flowers had 7 tackles and 2 passes defensed but Raiders’ WR Jacoby Ford beat him twice late in this game to give them the win.  DE Wallace Gilberry had a fumble recovery yesterday.  The Raiders finished up with 112 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 34 passes for 209 yards.  Raiders’ WR Jacoby Ford also returned a kickoff 94 yards for a TD to hurt the Chiefs in this game.  The Chiefs are now 5-3 on the year.

Kansas City Chiefs (5-2) vs. Oakland Raiders (4-4)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 6 November 2010 at 10:53 pm

The Chiefs have won two games in a row but they have not played too well away from Arrowhead Stadium.  The Chiefs are 1-2 on the road as they have been outscored 68-56.  The Raiders have been incredible lately as they also have a 2 game winning streak in which they have outscored their opponents 92-17!  The are playing well in the Black Hole this year where they are 3-1, outscoring the opposition 108-75.  Here is a look a the matchups in this game:

When the Chiefs have the ball:  The Chiefs are going to do what they do best and that is run the football with Thomas Jones & Jamaal Charles.  They should have success on the ground as the Raiders are giving up 127.4 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry.  The Raiders have amped up the pass rush lately as they have 24 sacks already this year.  Matt Cassel might have to make quicker decisions with the ball this weekend.

When the Raiders have the ball:  The Chiefs are only giving up 96.4 yards rushing per game and 3.8 yards per carry but that won’t scare off the Raiders.  Darren McFadden, Michael Bush and Marcel Reece are going to be coming after the Chiefs’ D all day long.  Jason Campbell will likely take a few shots deep off of play action tomorrow as he has been very effective the last two weeks.

PREDICTION:  RAIDERS 27, CHIEFS 17
