Buffalo Bills (0-6) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (4-2)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 29 October 2010 at 11:14 pm

The Chiefs have been absolutely dominating at home this year.  They are 3-0 at Arrowhead Stadium and they have outscored the opposition 94-44!  The Bills got close last weekend before falling to the Ravens in O.T. 37-34.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Chiefs have the ball:  The Chiefs are going to run the ball against the Bills who are allowing 174.5 yards rushing per game and 4.8 yards per carry so far this year.  That means that Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles will likely both have big games this Sunday.  The Bills are also awful against the pass as opposing QBs have a 114.1 QB Rating against them.  Matt Cassel has had a string of nice games going and that will continue this Sunday.

When the Bills have the ball:  The Bills are going to throw when they get off the team bus.  Ryan Fitzpatrick has been playing out of his mind this year as he has a QB Rating of 102.0!  He will take aim at a Chiefs’ D that is allowing 243.8 yards passing per game.  He has a improving set of receivers in Steve Johnson, Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish so the Bills are going to be a threat when they have the ball.  They also have a decent pair of RBs when they decide to run the ball.

PREDICTION:  CHIEFS 38, BILLS 20

The Kansas City Chiefs ink Mark Simoneau

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 28 October 2010 at 8:47 pm

The Chiefs have signed 33-year old linebacker Mark Simoneau.  Simoneau hasn’t played since the 2007 season with the Siants.  He has played in 123 games in his NFL career and he has 415 tackles, 15 passes defensed, 7 interceptions, 8 forced fumbles and 1 interception.  If Simoneau is healthy and well rested he should provide the Chiefs’ D with nice depth at linebacker.

UPDATE:  (11/17/2010) – The Chiefs have placed Simoneau on I.R. due to a unspecified injury.  He played in 1 game for the Chiefs this year and he had 1 tackle.

Kansas City Chiefs 42, Jacksonville Jaguars 20

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Sunday 24 October 2010 at 9:45 pm

The Chiefs were only up 21-20 early in the third quarter but things changed in their favor quickly after Derrick Johnson picked off a Todd Bouman pass returning it 15 yards for a TD.  The Chiefs tacked on two more TDs to give you the final score.  Matt Cassel was very efficient once again today as he completed 13 of 18 passes for 193 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  The O-Line of the Chiefs were blowing the D-Line of the Jaguars backwards as the running game was a sight to behold.  Thomas Jones led the way today on the ground for the Chiefs with 125 yards rushing on 20 carries (6.3 ypc) with a TD run.  Jamaal Charles was also very effective with 15 carries for 71 yards (4.7 ypc) with a TD run.  Rookie Dexter McCluster even got involved today with 4 carries for 28 yards (7.0 ypc) and 5 grabs for 41 yards (8.2 avg).  Jackie Battle pitched in with 12 yards rushing on 3 carries (4.0 ypc) and even he scored a TD on a run.  WR Dwyane Bowe continued his fine play as of late with 3 grabs for 82 yards (27.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  TE Tony Moeaki pitched in with 42 yards receiving on 3 grabs (14.0 avg) in this game.  The Chiefs finished up with 236 yards rushing on 47 carries (5.0 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 18 passes for 190 yards in this game.

LB Jovan Belcher and DT Shaun Smith led the way for the Chiefs’ D in this game with 7 tackles apiece.  LB Derrick Johnson (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 3 passes defensed and a pick six) and safety Eric Berry (4 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 2 QB hits and 1 interception) were the guys making the big plays in this game for the D today.  The Jaguars finished up with 84 yards rushing on 23 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 34 passes for 216 yards.  The Chiefs are now 4-2 on the year after this nice home win.

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (3-2)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 22 October 2010 at 8:21 pm

The Jaguars are in trouble this weekend as they will likely have to start Todd Bouman at QB and he has not appeared in an NFL game since 2007 with the Rams.  The Chiefs return home to Arrowhead Stadium where they have dominated so far this year.  They are 2-0 at home, outscoring opponents 52-24!   Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Chiefs have the ball:  This might be the week that the Chiefs take the shackles off the passing game.  The Jaguars are allowing 263.7 yards passing per game and opposing QBs have a 110.0 Rating against them this year.  WR Dwyane Bowe woke up last weekend and I look for him to have another solid game this Sunday.  TE Tony Moeaki, Chris Chambers and Dexter McCluster will also likely be in on the action.  That doesn’t mean the Chiefs won’t run the ball though as Jamaal Charles & Thomas Jones have been outstanding all year long.

When the Jaguars have the ball:  The Chiefs will likely go all out to step Maurice Jones-Drew and dare the Jaguars to try to beat them through the air with a guy who was sitting on his couch last weekend at QB.  The Chiefs are allowing 249.3 yards passing per game so far this year and they only have 3 interceptions so don’t be surprised if the Jaguars challenge them a bit more in the passing game then they probably should.

PREDICTION:  CHIEFS 26, JAGUARS 13

The Kansas City Chiefs need Chris Chambers to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Needs to Step Up by admin on Friday 22 October 2010 at 8:14 pm

32-year old WR Chris Chambers needs to get back into gear.  He has played in 4 games this season for the Chiefs and he has only caught 7 passes for 76 yards (10.9 avg).  The Chiefs need Chambers to get back to the player he was last season for them.  In 2009, Chambers played in 9 games for the Chiefs in which he caught 36 passes for 608 yards (16.9 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  That is the version of Chambers that the Chiefs need so they can open the passing game up a little bit.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign DT Atiyyah Ellison

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Wednesday 20 October 2010 at 5:31 pm

The Chiefs have signed 29-year old DT Atiyyah Ellison.  Ellison played in 15 games last season for the Jaguars and he had 16 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  Ellison is a big guy at 6’3″, 315 pounds so they hope that he’ll do a good job inside of helping out the run defense.

UPDATE:  (10/28/2010) – The Chiefs have released Ellison before he even got into a game.

The Kansas City Chiefs send DE/DT Alex Magee to the Buccaneers

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Leaving Town,Trades by admin on Wednesday 20 October 2010 at 5:28 pm

The Chiefs have traded 23-year old DE/DT Alex Magee and a 6th round pick in 2011 to the Buccaneers for a 5th round pick in 2011.  Magee played in 2 games for the Chiefs this year and he had 2 tackles.  Magee played in 17 games in two years with the Chiefs and he had 10 tackles and 2 sacks.  Magee was a 3rd round pick out of Purdue in 2009 but he just doesn’t seem to be a good fit in Romeo Crennel’s defense.  With that in mind I really like this deal for the Chiefs.

Houston Texans 35, Kansas City Chiefs 31

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Sunday 17 October 2010 at 7:21 pm

The Chiefs had the perfect game plan today as they planned on playing keepaway from the Texans’ offense.  The Chiefs had possession of the football for 33:28 today and they almost pulled it off.  But they gave up 2 TDs in the last 3:30 of the game today erasing a 10-point lead.  Matt Cassel had his best game of the year by far today as he completed 20 of 29 passes for 201 yards with 3 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Thomas Jones led the way on the ground for the Chiefs in this game with 19 carries for 100 yards (5.3 ypc) with a TD run.  Jamaal Charles was also very busy today with 16 carries for 93 yards (5.8 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 24 yards (6.0 avg).  Dexter McCluster pitched in with 2 carries for 27 yards (13.5 avg) and 3 catches for 13 yards (4.3 avg).  WR Dwyane Bowe had a monster game today with 6 grabs for 108 yards (18.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  The Chiefs finished up with 228 yards rushing on 38 carries (6.0 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 29 passes for 189 yards.

LB Derrick Johnson (9 tackles) and LB Jovan Belcher (7 tackles) led the way for the Chiefs on “D” in this game.  The Texans finished up with 132 yards rushing on 22 carries (6.0 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 33 passes for 289 yards today.  The Chiefs are now 3-2 on the year.

Kansas City Chiefs (3-1) vs. Houston Texans (3-2)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 14 October 2010 at 8:04 pm

The Chiefs are a surprising 3-1 on the year and the Texans have had issues at home as they are 1-2 there (outscored by a combined 85-57)!  Something has to give in this game.  Here is a look at the matchups:

When the Chiefs have the ball:  If the Chiefs are ever going to throw the football this is the week.  The Texans are giving up 329.6 passing yards per game and opposing QBs have a 102.6 QB Rating against them.  The Chiefs O-Line has been incredible so far this year as Matt Cassel has only been sacked 3 times this year and the Chiefs are averaging 148.8 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  With that in mind, Matt Cassel should have time to throw the football.  TE Tony Moeaki, Dwyane Bowe and Chris Chambers need to step up in this game for the Chiefs to have a chance at a road upset this week.  Don’t think for a minute though that the Chiefs won’t run the ball with Jamaal Charles & Thomas Jones because they will get their touches against a Texans’ D that is allowing only 79.6 yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry.

When the Texans have the ball:  The Texans will likely come out throwing the ball against the Chiefs to try to get them out of their offense (running the ball).  Matt Schaub has been sacked 14 times this year already so look for the Chiefs to blitz more than they usually like to.  Schaub will be looking mostly for Andre Johnson (down the field), Kevin Walter (on the short stuff) and Arian Foster (out of the backfield).  The Chiefs have been pretty good on run defense this year holding opponents to only 80.5 yards rushing and 3.2 yards per carry but they have yet to play a back like Arian Foster who has 562 yards rushing and 154 yards receiving so far this year.

PREDICTION:  TEXANS 24, CHIEFS 17

Indianapolis Colts 19, Kansas City Chiefs 9

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Sunday 10 October 2010 at 9:17 pm

The Chiefs fought hard especially on defense today but it just wasn’t good enough to win in Indy.  Matt Cassel was below average as usual as he completed 16 of 29 passes for 156 yards today.  Jammal Charles was effective as usual with 16 carries for 87 yards (5.4 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 14 yards (4.7 avg).  Thomas Jones was stuffed by the Colts today as he finished up with 8 carries for 19 yards (2.4 ypc) today.  TE Tony Moeaki led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs today with 4 grabs for 50 yards (12.5 avg).  The Chiefs finished up with 113 yards rushing on 27 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 29 passes for 148 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 25:35.

The defense played excellent today as it held Peyton Manning without a TD pass.  LBs Derrick Johnson (9 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 1 pass defensed) and Tamba Hali (6 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Chiefs today on D.  CB Brandon Carr (8 tackles, 1 pass defensed) and safety Jon McGraw (6 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) also had solid games for the Chiefs today.  The Colts finished up with 97 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 26 of 44 passes for 244 yards.  The Chiefs are now 3-1 on the year.
