Jamaal Charles is stepping up big time for the Kansas City Chiefs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Stepping Up by admin on Saturday 19 December 2009 at 12:36 pm

22-year old RB Jamaal Charles is staking his claim to be the featured back in the Chiefs’ offense for the future.  Charles has played in 12 games this season for the Chiefs and he has carried the ball 116 times for 605 yards (5.2 ypc) with 4 TD runs.  He has also caught 34 passes for 256 yards (7.5 avg) with a TD grab this season.  Charles has been replaced as the kickoff returner because of his new role as the main man in the running game.  Charles returned 35 kickoffs for 901 yards (25.7 avg) with 1 TD return this year.  Charles has now touched the ball 185 times this season for a total of 1,762 yards (9.5 avg. per touch) and he has scored 6 overall TDs.  Charles is averaging 146.8 all purpose yards for the Chiefs this season.  Despite being on the small side I think that Charles has the heart to handle a full workload in the running game.

Buffalo Bills 16, Kansas City Chiefs 10

The Chiefs could have won this game if they just didn’t turn the ball over as much as they did.  Matt Cassel was the main culprit as he completed 26 of 43 passes for 224 yards with 0 TD passes and 4 INTs.  The Chiefs screwed up when they kept throwing the ball instead of handing it off to Jamaal Charles who was a beast today.  Charles carried the ball 20 times for 143 yards (7.2 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 7 passes for 38 yards (5.4 avg).  Chris Chambers led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs with 50 yards receiving on 4 grabs (12.5 avg).  Leonard Pope (4 rec, 45 yards) and Bobby Wade (4 rec, 34 yards) both pitched in for the Chiefs in the passing game today.  The Chiefs finished up with 354 total yards on offense (152 rushing, 202 passing) in this game.

Safety Mike Brown led the way for the Chiefs’ on D today with 9 tackles.  LB Demorrio Williams and DE Tyson Jackson pitched in with 8 tackles apiece in this game.  The Bills finished up with 273 total yards on offense (200 rushing, 73 passing) in this game.  The Chiefs are now 3-10 on the year.

Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 11 December 2009 at 7:53 pm

The Chiefs have to be licking their wounds after getting popped the last two weeks by a combined score of 87-27 by the Chargers and Broncos.  At least this week they will be playing someone their own size in the Buffalo Bills.  The Chiefs will come out running the ball this week against a Bills’ D that is allowing 172.1 yards rushing and 4.9 yards per carry.  That means that Jamaal Charles could have a awesome game so if you have him on your fantasy roster get him in the starting line-up this weekend.  The Chiefs must be able to give Matt Cassel time to throw the ball or he will be in big trouble against a Bills’ D that already has picked off 21 passes this season.

The Bills will also likely come out running the ball against the Chiefs who are giving up 143.8 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per carry this year.  The Bills will also take some shots down the field with Terrell Owens and Lee Evans so the Chiefs corners had better be ready.  The Chiefs are allowing 250.8 yards passing per game and they only have 9 interceptions so Ryan Fitzpatrick could also be in line for a big game for the Bills.

PREDICTION:  BILLS 30, CHIEFS 27

The Kansas City Chiefs lose Kolby Smith for the year

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 9 December 2009 at 11:26 pm

The Chiefs have lost running back Kolby Smith for the year as he has been placed on the Injured Reserve List.  Smith played in 4 games for the Chiefs this season and he carried the ball 15 times for 33 yards (2.2 ypc).  He also caught 2 passes for 9 yards (4.5 avg) this year.  The Chiefs will miss him as they can’t afford to lose depth at RB.

Kansas City Chiefs 13, Denver Broncos 44

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Game Recaps,General Chiefs Discussion by Andrew on Monday 7 December 2009 at 9:43 pm

The Kansas City Chiefs (3-9) played awful on Sunday and were crushed by the Denver Broncos (8-4).  Despite forcing three turnovers, the Chiefs still let the Broncos put up 44 points.  They let the Broncos run all over them, literally.  The Broncos went for 245 rushing yards as a team and Knowshon Moreno rushed for two touchdowns.  They also let Kyle Orton pass for two touchdowns, even though he accounted for all three of the Broncos’ turnovers (2 fumbles, 1 interception).

The Chiefs offense was just as bad as their defense.  Matt Cassel played terribly, throwing 2 interceptions and 0 touchdowns while completing only 10/29 passes for 84 yards.  Jamaal Charles was the only offense they could get, and it wasn’t much.  He rushed for one touchdown and 56 yards on 18 carries.  The Chiefs need to do a much better job of taking advantage of turnovers.  They forced three turnovers and were not able to get much out of them.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos preview

The Kansas City Chiefs (3-8) are hosting the Denver Broncos (7-4) Sunday, and their defense better be ready to stop the run.  Broncos’ quarterback Kyle Orton is playing through an ankle injury and the Broncos have a strong running game, so I expect them to run the ball a lot.  The Chiefs have not been good at stopping the run, so it doesn’t bode well for the Chiefs.  Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter will be splitting the carries for the Broncos, and both are capable of 100-yard days.

The Chiefs offense is going up against a pretty strong Broncos defense.  The Broncos held the Giants to 6 points, so I don’t see the Chiefs having too much success.  The Chiefs offense averages less than 200 yards passing and less than 100 yards rushing, and the Broncos defense gives up less than 300 total yards on average, so the Chiefs are not going to get much out of Matt Cassel and Jamaal Charles.  This could be a blowout.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Kansas City Chiefs 7, Denver Broncos 28

Chris Chambers has been a godsend for the Kansas City Chiefs this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Stepping Up by admin on Wednesday 2 December 2009 at 1:18 pm

31-year old WR Chris Chambers has been a godsend for the Chiefs this season.  He has played in 4 games for the Chiefs this season and he has caught 17 passes for 319 yards (18.8 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Chambers is already second on the team in receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs for the Chiefs this year.  Claiming Chambers off waivers from the rival Chargers was one of the best moves the new front office has made this season without a doubt.  The Chiefs hope he can keep up the good work the rest of the way.
