The Chiefs fell to 4-11 on the season after another disappointing season.  Brodie Croyle started this game and he completed 9 of 12 passes for 69 yards but he was pulled after throwing a interception that was returned 61-yards for a TD by Paris Lenon of the Lions.  Damon Huard came in and rallied the troops before falling short.  He completed 24 of 36 passes for 305 yards with 2 TD passes.  Kolby Smith was busy as he carried the ball 17 times for 60 yards (3.5 ypc) and he also caught 7 passes for 55 yards (7.9 avg).  Tony Gonzalez (10 rec, 137 yards) and Dwyane Bowe (8 rec, 97 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Chiefs.  The Chiefs finished up with 63 yards rushing on 18 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 33 of 48 passes for 344 yards.

DE Jared Allen led the way for the Chiefs Defense with 3 tackles, 2 sacks and he caught a 1-yard TD pass.  The Lions finished up with 137 yards rushing on 32 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 9 of 16 passes for 99 yards.

The Chiefs were leading this game 17-13 in the 4th quarter before fading down the stretch.  Brodie Croyle completed 25 of 43 passes for 217 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 interceptions.  Kolby Smith had a solid game with 18 carries for 82 yards (4.6 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 23 yards (7.7 avg).  Samie Parker (3 rec, 33 yards) and fullback Kris Wilson (3 rec, 18 yards) each scored a TD in this game.  The Chiefs finished up with 89 yards rushing on 21 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 43 passes for 217 yards.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tennessee Titans

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Wednesday 12 December 2007 at 11:50 pm

Both of these teams are ice cold right now.  The Titans have lost 4 of their last 5 games as they have been outscored 140-84 in those games.  The Chiefs have lost six games in a row and they have been outscored 158-77 in those games.

The Titans whole gameplan on offense revolves around the running game which should be effective against a Chiefs’ Defense that is allowing 123.5 yards rushing per game and 4.4 yards per carry.  The Titans need to be effective running the ball to give Vince Young a chance to have time to throw the football because DE Jared Allen (11.5 sacks) has been outstanding for the Chiefs this year.

The Chiefs will likely have no choice but to air the ball out in this game if Kolby Smith (ankle) can’t go.  Gilbert Harris would take over as the starter at running back and the Titans only allow 98.1 yards rushing per game this season.  Brodie Croyle should throw the ball short to negate the pass rush of the Titans.  That means TE Tony Gonzalez should have a good football game.

PREDICTION:  KANSAS CITY CHIEFS 17, TENNESSEE TITANS 16

Denver Broncos 41, Kansas City Chiefs 7

Herman Edwards should be ashamed of his team’s effort yesterday as they got crushed on both sides of the football.  Brodie Croyle was awful yesterday as he completed 15 of 29 passes for 132 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  He also lost 2 fumbles in the game.  Kolby Smith couldn’t get anything going on the ground as he carried the ball 13 times for 12 yards (0.9 ypc).  TE Tony Gonzalez had a solid game with 7 catches for 76 yards (10.9 avg) with a TD grab.  The Chiefs finished up with 16 rushing yards on 17 carries (0.9 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 29 passes for 113 yards.

Safety Bernard Pollard and LB Napoleon Harris each had 9 tackles apiece to lead the Chiefs defense.  The Broncos carried the football 34 times for 215 yards (6.3 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 27 passes for 238 yards.

Rookie QB Tyler Thigpen is done for the season after tearing his MCL.  He only played in 1 game for the Chiefs this season and it was last week.  In that game, Thigpen completed 2 of 6 passes (33.3%) for 41 yards with 1 interception (18.7 QB Rating).  The Chiefs have signed lefty throwing David Greene to the practice squad to take over the role as the #3 QB.
