The Kansas City Chiefs continue to have problems at QB

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion by admin on Wednesday 28 November 2007 at 9:59 pm

The Chiefs have changed starting QBs but the result has been the same.  Damon Huard was the starter early this season but he proved that last season was a fluke and that he’s really a backup QB.  Huard has completed 163 of 262 passes (62.2%) for 1,766 yards with 8 TD passes and 11 interceptions (74.7 QB Rating) so far this season.  Brodie Croyle has replaced Huard and the results have not been any better as of yet.  Croyle has completed 58 of 97 passes (59.8%) for 614 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs (76.6 QB Rating) so far this season.  As long as Croyle stays healthy he will likely finish this season as the starter at QB for the Chiefs.

The Oakland Raiders came into Arrowhead Stadium and hurt the Chiefs bad in this game.  Brodie Croyle had another sub par game as he completed 12 of 23 passes for 145 yards with a interception and he also carried the ball 4 times for 10 yards (2.5 ypc).  Rookie RB Kolby Smith got his first start of the season and he was incredible as he carried the ball 31 times for 150 yards (4.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Dwyane Bowe (4 rec, 63 yards) and Tony Gonzalez (3 rec, 48 yards) both pitched in on the passing game.  The Chiefs finished up with 164 yards rushing on 37 carries (4.4 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 23 passes for 128 yards.

Linebackers Derrick Johnson (7 tackles), Donnie Edwards (7 tackles, interception) and Napoleon Harris (7 tackles) led the way on defense for the Chiefs.  The Raiders finished up with 153 yards rushing on 29 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 22 passes for 159 yards.

Indianapolis Colts 13, Kansas City Chiefs 10

The game is going to hurt for a while as the Chiefs would have won this game if Dave Rayner had just made his field goals as he was only 1 for 3 on the day.  Brodie Croyle had a so-so game as he completed 19 of 27 passes for 169 yards with 1 TD pass but he also lost a fumble in the game.  Priest Holmes had another tough game as he carried the ball 19 times for 55 yards (2.9 ypc).  Rookie Kolby Smith had a tough game too as he carried the ball 8 times for 17 yards (2.1 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 34 yards (11.3 avg).  Dwyane Bowe had a solid game for the Chiefs with 7 catches for 64 yards (9.1 avg) with a TD grab.  Tony Gonzalez pitched in with 4 catches for 46 yards (11.5 avg).  The Chiefs finished up with 72 yards rushing on 27 carries (2.7 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 27 passes for 162 yards.

The Chiefs defense was outstanding in this game as they were swarming to the ball with maximum helmets hitting the ball carrier.  The Colts only rushed for 66 yards on 24 carries (2.4 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 32 passes for 150 yards.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Indianapolis Colts

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 17 November 2007 at 2:00 am

The Chiefs picked a bad time to change QBs as the RCA Dome is an intimidating place to play.  The Chiefs will likely play this game close to the vest on offense to try to keep the Colts offense on the sideline.  That will be easier said than done as Priest Holmes looked a little rusty last week against the Broncos defense!  The Colts are allowing 105.3 yards rushing per game and 4.0 yards per carry so it’s possible that the Chiefs could be somewhat effective on the ground.  The Colts pass defense has been outstanding this season so Brodie Croyle will have to be careful with the ball.

The Colts will likely try to keep the ball on the ground more than usual with Peyton Manning coming off of his worst game in a long, long time.  Joseph Addai  and Kenton Keith will get a lot of work against a Chiefs defense that is allowing 108.9 yards rushing per game and 4.0 yards per carry.  But, don’t think for a minute that the Colts won’t throw the ball some.  Reggie Wayne (59 rec, 870 yards, 6 TDs) could have a big game but the Chiefs will likely double him.

PREDICTION:  This game will likely be a little closer than most experts predict.  COLTS 24, CHIEFS 13

Denver Broncos 27, Kansas City Chiefs 11

The Chiefs really played horrible in this game and it showed on the scoreboard.  Damon Huard started the game for the Chiefs and he was awful as he only completed 6 of 15 passes for 83 yards with 2 interceptions.  Brodie Croyle replaced Huard in the game and he played a little bit better as he completed 17 of 30 passes for 162 yards with 1 interception.  Priest Holmes got his first start in a long time and he carried the ball 20 times for 65 yards (3.3 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 14 yards (7.0 avg).  Dwyane Bowe led all receivers on the Chiefs with 9 catches for 105 yards (11.7 avg).  The Chiefs finished up with 67 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.0 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 45 passes for 217 yards.

The Chiefs defense was led by linebacker Derrick Johnson who had 11 tackles and a interception.  The Broncos finished up with 141 yards rushing on 29 carries (4.9 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 31 passes for 186 yards.

Larry Johnson seriously injured in game against the Packers

Blogged under Big Chiefs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Chiefs Discussion,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 6 November 2007 at 11:09 pm

Larry Johnson has a serious foot injury that could cost him to miss the remainder of the season.  Johnson has carried the ball 158 times for 559 yards (3.5 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also has caught 30 passes for 186 yards (6.2 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Losing him will be a big blow unless……Priest Holmes can shake off the rust.  Holmes will be the main man until Johnson can return….if he can.  Holmes has carried the football 7 times for 17 yards (2.4 ypc) and he’s also caught 2 passes for 2 yards (1.0 avg).  Rookie Kolby Smith should also get a big boost in playing time.  He hasn’t carried the ball this season but he has caught 2 passes for 21 yards (10.5 avg).

Green Bay Packers 33, Kansas City Chiefs 22

The Chiefs just didn’t play well in this game and they deserved to lose.  Damon Huard completed 19 of 32 passes for 213 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 interceptions (one of which was a pick-six).  Larry Johnson was busy with 19 carries for 53 yards (2.8 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 3 passes for 42 yards (14.0 avg) and a TD.  TE Tony Gonzalez also came to play as he caught 10 passes for 109 yards (10.9 avg) with a TD grab.  The Chiefs finished up with only 61 yards rushing on 22 carries (2.8 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 32 passes for 173 yards.

Linebacker Donnie Edwards led the way for the Chiefs defense with 7 tackles.  The Packers finished up with 78 yards rushing on 27 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 24 for 34 passes for 354 yards.

The Chiefs have signed linebacker Pat Thomas to provide depth and help out on special teams.  Thomas has played in 4 games (1 start) this season with the Jaguars and he made 4 tackles.  Thomas has played in 15 games (1 start) in his NFL career and he has made 16 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  Thomas was signed on to replace Johnny Baldwin who was placed on Injured Reserve with a knee injury.  Baldwin finishes the season with 3 tackles.

The Chiefs definately won this game with defense.  It was led by DE Jared Allen who continues to play like a mad man after returning from his league suspension.  He had 9 tackles and 2 sacks in this game.  The Chiefs held the Raiders to 55 yards rushing on 24 carries (2.3 ypc) and they completed 18 of 29 passes for 213 yards.

Damon Huard didn’t have his best game as he completed 16 of 31 passes for 177 yards with an interception.  Larry Johnson was outstanding in this game as he carried the ball 24 times for 112 yards (4.7 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 6 passes for 21 yards (3.5 avg).  Priest Holmes got his first action of the season and he carried the ball 4 times for 9 yards (2.3 ypc).  Dwyane Bowe (3 rec, 84 yards) and Tony Gonzalez (4 rec, 66 yards) each got their yards in this game.  The Chiefs finished up with 126 yards rushing on 32 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 32 passes for 164 yards.
