The over/under on wins for the Kansas City Chiefs is 7.5 for 2007

Sure, the Chiefs were awful in the pre-season but guess what….those games mean absolutely nothing.  This number seems kind of low to me considering that the Chiefs are doing the right thing and starting Damon Huard at QB.  I also like the fact that they brought in Napoleon Harris and Donnie Edwards to help out the defense.  Look for this team to surprise some people and win 8-10 games in 2007.  Take the over.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans

The Texans have changed their skill players on offense but that might not matter because they did nothing to improve the offensive line in the off-season.  The Texans will have to keep DE Tamba Hali and OLBs Derrick Johnson and Donnie Edwards out of their backfield to give Schaub time to throw the football.  The way the Texans will probably try to work the game is by running Ahman Green and Ron Dayne at the interior of the Chiefs’ defense which could be weak.  MLB Napoleon Harris must stop the RBs of the Texans to force the Texans to throw the football.  The Chiefs will likely double WR Andre Johnson and force the Texans to beat them with their other receivers.  If that is the case look for the Texans to run a lot of 3 WR sets and throw the ball to rookie speedster Jacoby Jones who had an awesome pre-season.  The Texans will also send big TE Owen Daniels against the young safeties (SS Bernard Pollard and FS Jarrad Page) of the Chiefs.  Schaub must be careful when throwing the football outside as CBs Ty Law and Patrick Surtain might be old but they still can make big plays.

Look for the Chiefs to run the football a lot.  Likely Larry Johnson and Michael Bennett will be running a lot to the left behind C Casey Wiegmann, LG Brian Waters and LT Damion McIntosh.  The Texans will need rookie DT Amobi O’Koye to add support to MLB DeMeco Ryans and OLB Morlon Greenwood in defending the run.  Look for Tony Gonzalez to have a huge football game against the safeties of the Texans as they have suffered a lot of injuries there.  Also, look for the Texans to attack the side opposite of wherever CB Dunta Robinson is playing as he is outstanding.  Robinson will probably be keeping an eye on WR Eddie Kennison so watch for either Samie Parker or rookie Dwyane Bowe to have a good game on Sunday.  If the Chiefs keep DE Mario Williams out of their backfield, Damon Huard should have the time to throw the ball and have a good game.

The Texans do have a huge edge on special teams as KR Jerome Mathis and PR Jacoby Jones can take it to the house on any kick.  Also, Kris Brown is much more reliable than rookie Justin Medlock of the Chiefs who had a rough pre-season only hitting 3 of 6 FGs.

PREDICTION:  I know everyone is excited about Matt Schaub and some of the other skill players but the Chiefs are just the better team and they will win a close football game on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs claim CB Rashad Barksdale off waivers from Philadelphia

The Kansas City Chiefs have claimed CB Rashad Barksdale off waivers from the Phildelphia Eagles.  Barksdale had a solid pre-season for the Eagles as he made 13 tackles and had an interception.  The Chiefs hope they have found lightning in a bottle with Barksdale because their secondary is getting old.

The Kansas City Chiefs release three “offensive” players

The Chiefs have released a couple of QBs and a running back.  Casey Printers has been released despite the fact that he was the QB who played the best in the pre-season for the Chiefs.  Printers completed 19 of 34 passes (55.9%) for 202 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 INTs (73.4 QB Rating) and he also carried the football 8 times for 47 yards (5.9 ypc).  Undrafted rookie QB Jeff Terrell also outplayed Brodie Croyle in the pre-season as he completed 20 of 30 passes (66.7%) for 171 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 interception (67.5 QB Rating).  He also carried the football 2 times for 7 yards (3.5 ypc).  RB Marcus O’Keith was busy in the pre-season but he didn’t play too well.  He carried the football 17 times for 45 yards (2.6 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also has caught 2 passes for 7 yards.

St. Louis Rams 10, Kansas City Chiefs 3

Just when you think that pre-season Chiefs football can’t be any more boring they throw in a super clunker.  Brodie Croyle got his work in quickly and poorly as he only completed 1 of 4 passes for 15 yards.  Undrafted rookie Jeff Terrell finished up the game by completing 15 of 25 passes for 117 yards with 1 pickoff.  Rookie RB Kolby Smith was a bright spot in this game as he carried the football 7 times for 64 yards (9.1 ypc).  Derrick Ross was also busy with 8 carries for 27 yards (3.4 ypc) and 3 catches for 27 yards (9.0 avg).  Michael Bennett (4 car, 20 yards) and Larry Johnson (3 car, 12 yards) both looked good in their limited time on the football field.  The Chiefs did finish with 148 yards rushing on 27 carries (5.5 ypc) but they only completed 16 of 29 passes for 111 yards.

The defense played tough considering that they weren’t getting any help at all from the offense.  The Chiefs held the Rams to 91 yards rushing on 30 carries (3.0 ypc) and the Rams completed 23 of 32 passes for 196 yards.
