Chiefs prove critics wrong with 1st round pick

Many thought that the Chiefs were reaching a little bit for Tamba Hali in the first round.  Hali is proving all the critics wrong  as he has played in all 12 games this season.  Hali has 45 tackles, 5 sacks and he’s forced 4 fumbles this season.  Hopefully, the Chiefs will draft another defensive player in the first round next season that will produce like Hali has.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have won 5 of their last 6 games and all of a sudden they have a chance to get home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs as they are only 1 game behind the Colts and Chargers.  The Chiefs have won 5 of their 7 games and are a solid 5-1 at home this season.

Look for the Ravens to lean heavily on the running game early on Sunday as Billick likes to establish the run game to slow the pass rush for Steve McNair.  Jamal Lewis (796 yards rushing) could find alot of running room against the soft interior of the Chiefs defense that is allowing 112.1 yards rushing per game.  After the running game gets going, look for Steve McNair to attack the slow defensive backs of the Chiefs with deeper throws to Mark Clayton and Derrick Mason.  Todd Heap also is a big mis-match against the safeties of the Chiefs.

The Chiefs will need Trent Green to have another game like he did last week against Cleveland or the Chiefs will be in trouble.  The Ravens are gonna key on Larry Johnson (1,312 yards rushing), but the Chiefs will try to match strength vs. strength.  The Ravens have one of the best run defenses in the NFL as they only allow 75.8 yards rushing and 3.1 yards per carry.  The Chiefs offensive line must give Trent Green time to throw (the Ravens have 41 sacks) or the Chiefs will be in trouble.  Tony Gonzalez against Ed Reed is the key match-up in this football game and whoever wins this battle will have a huge say in who wins this football game.

This should be a great football game.  With all things being equal, I will take Brian Billick over Herman Edwards any day of the week.

Chiefs choke against Browns and lose 31-28 in OT

The Chiefs played very well on the offensive side of the football, but the defense was pathetic.  The Chiefs were winning 28-14 with 12:35 left in the football game and blew the lead to a QB that had never thrown an NFL pass until today after Charlie Frye hurt his wrist.

Trent Green played a fantastic game.   Green completed 24 of 32 passes for 297 yards with 4 TDs and 1 INT.   Larry Johnson carried the ball 28 times for 110 yards (3.9 ypc) and caught 2 passes for 26 yards.  Michael Bennett carried the ball 3 times for 14 yards (4.7 ypc) and caught 4 passes for 33 yards.  Eddie Kennison had a good game with 7 receptions for 117 yards and a TD.  Tony Gonzalez was great with 9 receptions for 105 yards and 2 TDs.

Sammy Knight (10 tackles), Kawika Mitchell (11 tackles, INT) and Keyaron Fox (11 tackles, sack) all had good games for the Chiefs.  The rest of the defense played very poorly.  The Browns carried the ball 29 times for 150 yards (5.2 ypc).  The Browns completed 23 of 34 passes for 288 net yards passing.

This loss really will hurt the Chiefs chances of making the playoffs this season.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Cleveland Browns

The Chiefs are on a roll as they’ve won 5 of their last 6 football games, including 2 in a row.  The Browns have lost two in a row, including a 30-0 beating at the hands of the Bengals last week.

The Chiefs will probably be pretty basic on offense and just feed the ball to Larry Johnson (1,202 yards rushing) alot against a Browns defense that is allowing 133.5 yards rushing and 4.5 yards per carry.  The Chiefs also will probably try to get the ball to Tony Gonzalez a bit to shut Kellen Winslow up.

The Browns will come out running the ball with Jason Wright and Reuben Droughns against a Chiefs defense that is allowing 108.6 yards rushing per game.  Charlie Frye could have a decent game if the Browns Line gives him protection, because the Chiefs DBs are a little on the old side.  Kellen Winslow should have a good game and be motivated to try to show up Tony Gonzalez.

The Chiefs need this game and should get it as Larry Johnson could have a huge game.
