Kansas City Chiefs QBs

Herman Edwards has to be pleased that the question of who he will start at QB is even being asked.  Edwards is starting to trust Damon Huard more each week and opening up the offense.  Huard has completed 64.5% of his passes for 1,623 yards with 11 TDs and 1 INT.  Huard has a fantastic QB rating of 105.2 and it wouldn’t be a reach to think that he will hold the job even when Trent Green returns.

Trent Green has thrown for over 4,000 yards for the last three seasons prior to this one, and he’s the only QB in the NFL to achieve that feat.  Green has been out since the middle of the first game with a serious concussion, but he’s almost ready to return.  For this season he has completed 11 of 15 passes for 90 yards with a pick-off.  We’ll see which way Edwards goes when Green is soon cleared to play.

Brodie Croyle is not ready for prime-time.  Brodie has completed 3 of 7 passes for 23 yards and 2 INTs!

Chiefs grind out victory over the Rams 31-17

The Chiefs played their kind of game against the Rams.  The Chiefs got the lead and then kept feeding the ball to Larry Johnson to keep their own defense off of the field, and it worked to perfection.  Damon Huard completed 10 of 15 passes for 148 yards and 3 TDs.  Larry Johnson carried the ball 27 times for 172 yards (6.4 ypc) and a TD.  Michael Bennett carried the ball 4 times for 14 yards (3.5 ypc) when Johnson needed a breather.  Tony Gonzalez had another great game, catching 5 passes for 63 yards and 2 TDs.  Kris Wilson caught one pass and it was an 11-yard TD.

The defense somehow held the Rams to only 17 points.  The Rams ran the ball 28 times for 115 yards (4.1 ypc).  The Rams completed 31 of 42 passes for 337 net yards passing.  DE Jared Allen had a good game for the Chiefs with 4 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery.

This was a huge win for the Chiefs.

Trent Green back at practice

Trent Green has returned to practice and should be ready to play in two weeks.  This will interesting to see how Herman Edwards plays this situation.  Will Edwards keep playing Damon Huard or bring back Trent Green.  Over the previous three seasons, Trent Green has been one of the best QBs in the NFL, throwing for 12,644 yards.  Green is the only NFL QB that threw for 4,000+ yards in each of the previous 3 seasons.

Damon Huard’s play has exceeded even the wildest dreams of Herman Edwards.  Huard has passed for 1,475 yards this season.  Huard has 8 TDs and only 1 interception and has a QB rating of 100.4.

Chiefs vs. Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 1 November 2006 at 3:34 pm

The Kansas City Chiefs offense has come alive the last two weeks and it has needed to with the way the defense has played.  The Rams defense has played horrible the last two games, both losses, while the offense is still playing a high level.

Herman Edwards has to make sure that he doesn’t play this game conservatively, because there is no way the Chiefs will be able to stop the Rams on defense!  The Rams are vulnerable to a running game and a good tight-end, that was proven last week against the Chargers.  So look for Larry Johnson (644 yards rushing, 329 yards receiving) and Tony Gonzalez (33 rec, 441 yards) to carry the offense against the Rams.  Damon Huard, who’s having a fantastic season, will also look to get the ball deep to Eddie Kennison (24 rec, 406 yards) who has played well late.  The Rams defense allows 134.9 yards rushing per game and 215.9 net yards passing per game, so the Chiefs should be able to move the ball with ease.

Look for the Rams to be a little more balanced than usual to try to protect their lousy defense by keeping it off of the field.  Steven Jackson (605 yards rushing, 279 yards receiving) could have a huge game against the Chiefs who allow 112.7 yards rushing per game.  The Chiefs had better try to blitz the Rams often, because if Bulger (1,946 yards passing, 12 TDs, 1 INT) gets the ball off, the Chiefs are in trouble.  The Chiefs secondary doesn’t have the speed to keep up with Torry Holt (42 rec, 574 yards) or Isaac Bruce (32 rec, 493 yards) and the Rams are sure to throw deep often to those guys.

Hard to pick a winner in this game, but it should be exciting to watch!
