Tamba Hali (1, DE)

Hali was a good pick for the Chiefs.  Hali is a ball of energy that is always in attack mode, whether chasing a quarterback or blowing up a ballcarrier or blocker.  Hali always tackles through the ballcarrier and never takes a play off.  He has short arms though and can be engulfed by big tackles, but that’s nitpicking.

Hali played in 46 games for Penn State (34 starts) and compiled 179 tackles including 36 tackles for a loss.  Hali also had 14 sacks.  Hali is a little small at 6′2″ 270 pounds, but he’s fast as he runs a 4.7 40.

Hali’s entusiasm playing the game will probably rub off on his defensive teammates, and the Chiefs need some fire on that side of the ball.

Willie Roaf retires

11 time Pro-Bowler and future Hall-of-Famer Willie Roaf walked out of camp Thursday and informed the Chiefs that he intends to retire because of mounting injuries.  Roaf said the team “wants him to re-consider”, but Roaf intends to go back to college and get his degree.

This is a bad time for this to go down for the Chiefs.  The team will now have to replace him on the run, and the offense is sure to miss Roaf.

Trent Green is the Ironman of Chiefs

Not only has Trent Green started 80 straight games for the KC Chiefs, but he’s put up some incredible numbers during that time.  Many have the illusion that the Chiefs are a running team first, but a closer look at the numbers prove that to be false.  Green has thrown for 20,117 yards for the Chiefs the last four years, during which he has completed 62.0 % of his passes with 111 TD passes and only 76 interceptions.  Green is the leader that this team could not afford to lose as the depth is questionable at best.

Damon Huard has only played in 38 games (6 starts) in his career.  He has completed 58.8% of his passes for 1,691 yards with 9 TD and 8 interceptions.  Huard doesn’t have the arm to play any extended period of time…..the Chiefs need Green to stay healthy.

Brodie Croyle was drafted out of Alabama to groom for the future.  Don’t think he could be ready this season, he also has a very long injury history.
